Was wondering if you could tell me where I am going wrong? When I put down the masking, and lift it up, it seems to take of the paint that was underneath it. The masking tape isn't very strong, dont think it should. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

depends on what kind of masking tape. I use the painters tape the rare times I mask something. painters mask is blue in color.

I also found that sealing the paint with dullcoat reduces this type of pull of as well. you seal with dullcoat, let it dry good and then mask.

hope that helps.

CK hit it. Give your work a couple of shots of dullcoat or Krylon matte to seal the paint underneath. This SHOULD help stop the paint lifting, but there are several other factors that may be causing it to lift. Still, if you washed the kit or statue, primered and everything you're supposed to, it should be fine.

I've been using Scotch brand "Magic Tape." It's relatively low-tack on paint and doesn't strip off the paint underneath. It comes off pretty clean without residue.
my two cents
