11-29-2005, 04:35 PM
Modelzone? That used to be Beatties isn't it?

I love the pose and composition of the scene better than the big one, but for your close-up the details seems to be very soft in the V-Rex head, am I right?

darth_thorpe
11-29-2005, 04:56 PM
NO mz never was beaties. beaties went bust and over the years sold all there stores and modelzone brought some of them but not there croydon one cuz modelzone croydon was already there and then five or so years ago they closed that one down cuz prob they were compeating with forbidden planet which was just a couple of seconds away from them and also compeatiing with modelzone. basicly beaties sold far too much stuff then they could handle.

the pics dont do this justice realy cuse in my photography i never use flash so i had to up the iso on the film speed and thats y its a bit of a graney pic and also its sort of out of focus cuz of the amount of depth of field was used (2.8f) to also get the speed up bit its got good detail in it considering the size of the thing

Received mine this morning. It is definitely a very cool piece! Glad I picked it up.

Mine is indeed numbered on the base and on the box. 528/5000.

Mine did have some 'strings' of glue on the front of the base where the nameplate was attached, but these pealed off with no damage or marking. Other than that, it is a very well done sculpt.

Really didn't expect to see it on eBay so soon.

Tower Exclusive Auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/Weta-King-Kong-vs-V-Rex-Tower-Exclusive-Mini-Statue_W0QQitemZ6584940759QQcategoryZ80QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

This one is listed as a UK exclusive, if there is a separate run then maybe that is why some are not numbered.

This is a regular release over here. Wonder why its an exclusive in the US.I read on another forum it was "NewZeeland, Australia & Singapore Exclusive". Really vague stuff, all this "messing around" with numbers/editoin sizes and so called "exlcusives" or not. It's a bit the same feeling I have with some Attakus statues. Edition size 1500 and then a Japanese edtion size again from an xxxx number?? It really makes me wonder if those figures mean anything anymore, or are they "scamming" us poor dumb ass collectors?? ;)

Xeno
12-01-2005, 07:57 PM
And with "figures" I mean "numbers" , not the sculpts/statues. :)

It's a Tower Exclusive in the U.S., so your LCS won't be getting these unless they get it from Tower themselves.

This is a regular release over here. Wonder why its an exclusive in the US.I wondered as well. Since it is stated as a exclusive for Australia and N. Zeeland and on Play.com it is a Uk Exclusive.. and then it's numbered in the US and not in Europe/Uk?? So I mailed Weta and this is what I got back:

For your clarification: Tower Records have exclusive selling rights for the
'Kong fighting V-Rex' mini statue in the US. It cannot be purchased anywhere
else in America and is limited to 6000 pieces. We [Weta] have a second
edition of 5000 to sell to the 'rest-of-the-world' (including Aus, NZ,
Europe and the UK).

So, despite it being the same product, there are in effect two editions. To
my knowledge, both editions are numbered items.

Kind regards,
Now, I don't know about you guys, but to me it just means it is "limited" to 11000 pieces! I think it kinda sux all these seperate edition sizes for different parts of the world! It makes it unclear as how far a statue is limited or not. And the fact that a lot are not numberd while this man at weta believes they should be.. well I don't know. I think it's all a bit weird..

But to sum it up: In the US only Tower Records may sell it (I guess that's a big US retail company with lots of stores??) and it is numbered x/6000. Another batch of 5000 pieces is for the Australian/N. Zeeland/UK/Europe market and should be numbered but doesn't seem to be?? at leas not all of the time?
But there is no real exclusive out there.

I think they're toying with us collectors.. ;)

It is exclusives of 5000 & 6000. Not 11000. I'm assuming there is a different sticker on the box that says so. :p

Possible. Probably even. But since the European ones don't seem to be numbered at all, we can't even check that ES.

I know it's not all about the numbers. I know it should be about the statues itself but we all know that a lower ES feels a bit more "special". Besides all that, I hate it when something is so unclear when it's soooo easy to make it all clear for everyone. But that's just me. ;)

WOW! That is cool!

I know numbers "don't mean anything" but that is cool none-the-less.

You could either keep it and enjoy the super-low number, or flip it,
hyping the super-low number and see where it ends up at........

Decisions, decisions............. :peoples: :confused2

Looks like the Tower exclusive may be sold out now. Product page says unavailable. Does that mean temporary or actually sold out??

Tyrannosauron
12-17-2005, 02:19 PM
It might be sold out and it might not. The site seems to be run by a bunch of hamsters in running wheels, based on the experience I've had with them in the past week.
I ordered the V. rex skull off the site last week, back when it was still in stock. A couple of days later, they cancelled the order, but didn't notify me, nor did they refund my money. When I called to ask why it had been cancelled, they said that it had been in low stock and so weren't filling orders for it (never mind that "low stock" still means "we have some in stock" to any rational human being). Four days later, my money still hadn't been refunded, so I sent them an e-mail. When they didn't reply to the e-mail a full day later, I called and demanded to know where my money was. They told me that since it had been paid through PayPal, someone had to manually enter the refund into the computer. When I asked if I ever would have gotten anything if I hadn't protested very loudly, the response I got was, word for word, "After 30 days it might have taken care of itself. I'm not sure."
Brilliant business conduct. They've seen the last of my money.

.. it would behoove you to drop on by! They usually have these on the shelves with the mark down. Heck, I've seen the Coop Wheel Girl there for like, $49.00, a mass liquidation of the "new" Planet of the Apes statues at prohibitively low prices, and have gotten TONS of statues there for around $9.99 - $19.99.

I just haven't gotten out there yet, but I bet there'll be a few cheap Kong pieces at some point.

There were from 50 - 100 Mini VRex vs Kong statues for sale for weeks for $9.99 in the stores here in Sacramento.
Noone is picking them up.
The sale is officially over, but I'll bet if I offered to buy a bunch of them at $10 a pop, they'd take it.
I would think/guess, from the interest earlier in this thread, that many people would want the statue if it was only $10....

I got my mini Kong vs. V Rex today and its a very nice piece.

One thing I noticed is Kong's left arm looks to be quite a bit longer than the right. Even though the right is bent and over his head, and the left is extended, I think if they were both straightened out, the left would be quite a bit longer.

Other than that, its a fantastic piece. I also love the minute detail on the base with the leaves and moss. The V Rex is also very well done.
