Hey folks...wanted to show a few pics of the licensed Frank Cho's BABE & APE which is the cover of his first sketchbook. With due respect to the great Clay Moore we hope you like our Cho work too. Sculptor Mike Petryszak was hand picked by Frank for this project and I think he is perfect for the job! He's a talent I'd like to see go full time into sculpting and his gals are outstanding, IMO! The piece is around 1/9th scale and you may get a kick out of how we solved the "private" issue on the female. This ribbon kept Mike awake a few nights..LOL The Ape's arms will be slightly beefier and the top of his head will change slightly but it is pretty much what Frank is looking for. Oh yeah, the cigar will look like a cigar ...it's just a placeholder for the moment.

Best,

Michael

That is just incredible.

Mike, that is amazing. The Babe is absolutely scrumptious. And the Ape looks even better than some of the Kong pieces I have seen, IMO.

In retrospect it's kind of funny as we originally had signed to do a KONG VS T REX piece with Cho not wanting to do anything that would intrude on the wonderful Brandy work Clay is doing. But last July at SDCC when I saw all the Kong pieces Weta was putting out I figured it was overkill and begged Frank to let us do something different. This was our first choice. I've always loved this piece of Cho art! I'm soooo glad he gave us this opportunity.

Michael,

This is looking fantastic! Pzak did a great job translating Frank Cho's
drawing into 3D. This is going to be a must-buy for me. Be sure to
let us know when it's up for pre-order/order!

Just notice this is Pzak's work. Isn't he also doing Rogue for Bowen. He's certainly on a roll with the female sculpts.

Yep. Rogue also. He is definitely doing some great pieces...

Hey guys. Thanks for the nice comments. Cho's stuff is alway fun to do, lots of attitude.

Mike Hudson of ReelART has picked some of the coolest pieces to produce. He's a great guy and I am honered to be among the tallent he has assembled. I would keep an eye on this company.

Bullseye - Yeah, I did the Rogue for BD. What can I say, I like to sculpt curves. :)

Pzak, your version of the female form is always right on the money. I can't wait to see this piece completed. And for goodness' sake, when are you going to start sculpting full time? Amazing work- you have a gift, Mike. :buttrock:

Indeed, wise decision! And a great choice, surely one of the best and funniest pinups I've ever seen. Reminds me a bit of early Frazetta work.

I like this piece even more than the WETA pieces... it's just lovely!

One thing still bothers me: Don't know if it will pass the Missus test, but will try ... :)

Get rid of the long ribbon.
Make a thong of roses like the head piece.
Let's keep it uniform people.

Not a bad idea...the thing is we want to reamain true to what you see in Cho's art. We will run it past Frank and see what he wants to do. Maybe he will go for it, maybe not. Great idea either way!

thanks

I was thinking the same thing. Make the "sans ribbon" extremely limited at a premium $. Attakus does something like that with some of their Pinup collection.

Yup! Although not in her usual white tee and denim shorts, that's the lovely Brandy! I was hoping they'd make a variant of that one, I'd consider getting both, either way she's a knockout and so is this piece by Pzak!

Great piece by the way. Next best thing (or even better) than a Shanna statue designed by Frank.

What exactly is the attraction to these naked girl on ape themes?
Are people getting in touch with their inner neanderthal or something?

 Sounds as descent an explanation as any RS. :thumbs2:

:iagree: Personally I find the whole theme trite, cornball and childishly ridiculous and am getting thoroughly sick of the whole ludicrous, obscene, sexually suggestive, overdone cliche nonsense. Talk about cheap overkill by neanderthal wannabes. :thumbsdow And why doesn't the loser who took those dumb shots get off his fat @ss and cut his lawn. :stick: If one could actually call moss interspersed with dandelions a lawn. :confused2 :D

I like Frank Cho's artwork, but I have yet to see an accurate translation of his art to statue form. The Jungle Girl edition came pretty close, but I think it's the face in this piece that holds it back from being an A+.

Face sculpt seems a bit off. Paint job on face is sloppy too. Lip paint too wide for instance.

Then you need to check C.S. Moore's Brandy. That statue is on another level.
