View Full Version : Favorite Holiday Season TV/Movie/Play/Musical etc
Trying to get into the holiday spirit. My family celebrates Christmas, and quite frankly don't really know much of anything about Kwanzaa, so before you ask, I can't help you.
I know that we are well represented here with people from all over. If you don't celebrte any holiday this month, I mean no offense.
For me what usually does it is watching "A Christmas Carol" starring George C. Scott (one of my absolute favorite actors.) After that it has to be "A year without a Santa Claus" featuring the great musical numbers "I'm Mr. HeatMizer" and "I'm Mr. SnowMizer." (You know with the little claymation type puppets.)
As for music, I love Christmas music, and Nat King Cole, The Jackson Five and the Charlie Brown Christmas Music CD are my picks.
Anyone else?

For 40 years its been Rudolph and Charlie Brown. That was a BIG event in our house, it signaled the beginning of Christmas. This was back when they were played only once a year, and VCRs hadn't been invented... :)

Charlie Brown for sure. And it is on tonight, if I'm not mistaken. As far as Christmas music, I like the music from the 40's and 50's the best.

Yeah, Kermit is the man. He's like a muppet thespian. I can buy him in any role.
Another favorite was Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol.

The Little Drummer Boy is a favorite of mine.
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer...Yukon Cornelius is my hero! I love when he puts something that "could" be gold in his mouth, tastes it and can tell if it's gold or not! "...thp...thp..thp...ah, nuthin'.."

Christmas Vacation, Christmas Story, Scrooged, Home Alone I & II, Jingle All The Way, and Grinch.
Then there's the X-Files ep The Ghosts of Christmas Past.
Almost forgot 8 Crazy Nights. Niece watch that over Thanksgiving like 3 or 4 times.
Then there's the not so Xmasy, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Bad Santa and Trapped in Paradise.

I'm with you, Cage - Year without a Santa Claus is the best. I still sing the songs when the show is on. Santa Claus is coming to Town (with the Bergermeister Meisterberger) is also another favorite.
Charlie Brown Christmas is great for getting at the real spirit of Christmas, and Home Alone never fails to make me and the kids laugh.
I'll always have a special place in my heart for the cartoon Grinch Who Stole Christmas, though. In college we used to play a drinking game when this special was on. You had to drink everytime they said the word "who". When the whos went down to Whoville and started singing "Wa who do re, wa who wa who" there was not a sober eye in the house!

There really hasn't been a good original modern Christmas special for the family that is tradition worthy.

Look at that. Not a thing in this 3 year old response that I would change. :)
For music, I love my Christmas discs by Boys II Men, Roomful of Blues, Barenaked Ladies, and of course, South Park!
I have some great jazz Christmas CDs as well.
If I only get to pick one song, though, it is David Bowie and Bing Crosby singing Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy.
The Ramones singing "Merry Christmas - I don't Want to Fight Tonight" is also something that is a little irreverent. :)
