Nowadays, I would have to assume that as many as 15-20% of the PVs are going to hit the secondary market within the next 6 months. There's just too much easy money to be made for the flippers not to jump in whenever possible (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I'm a completist FS & MB, So i cant sell my collectibles. But what i cant understand is people who dont want a FS or MB but buy it to flip it. Leave it for the real collectors, now a FS like the phasing vision with a run of 300 is being sold for $700 that makes me sick.

What makes me sick is people like you saying.. "Oh you should leave it for a real collector... " but if I dont buy it... then how are you assured that the person who takes my place is a real collector...

By the way... I was charged for mine today... and yes... I am going to flip the son of a biscut for as much cash as I can get...

Actually, no I haven't. I haven't sold a single BD statue or bust since day 1.
That was quite an assumption on your part based on.... Nothing.

And, let's say I do chose to flip it, what's it to you?
Secondly, if I did choose to flip it, which I am not anyway, I wouldn't announce it and rub it into people's faces.

Think before you post completely unfounded comments like that.
Your condescending tone was most unwelcome.

Flipping is often associated with some sort of negative impression of the seller, almost like they have no regard for the artistic aspect and are just out for a quick buck.

While this may be the case for some people, I seriously doubt it describes too many people on this forum (if anyone).

I wish I was better set up to buy and sell some items on the secondary market simply to finance my own collection purchases. This stuff is getting expensive. To this date, they only items I've sold were doubles and items that disappointed me following a purchase. Buy some of the more in demand items is just smart IMO.

Tet,

I agree the tone that the flippers are given is not the most pleasant and what a person does or not does with there own property is there own business, I have been very lucky and In phase 2 did not miss out on one single Item, and have kept all but one item.

But right now I am seriously thinking of selling a large chunk of my collection to pay for a Sweatheart deal on a Trans Am , LT1 Crate Engine, alum Heads, Racing Computer and a Chip, plus alot of other goodies.. Its a Chance to get a very nice Car at a very good price...

So does that make me a flipper as well if I decide to do this? Is it such a bad thing?

And what would it take for some of you guys to sell off your collection?

df

I have to agree with you DFury. What is done with the statues after the purchase is your business. I loved my FS statues but when we remodled the basement and wanted a 42' plasma TV, I sold them. Many went to good homes with forum members such as Nightcrawler and NovaKane. So I don't see a problem with buying something to sell to get something else you want. Of course this is just my two cents worth.

If you prefer to have the TransAm over your statues and busts, who cares what other people think? Do what you want. Who is anyone to judge? Besides, it's a win-win situation. In the end, you get a return on your investment and buyers get to fill in holes in their collection.

There are a few things that would get me to sell my collection... Medical reasons being the first. If we needed something for the house like a new roof, that might compel me to sell off a few pieces... My kids education... A Bar Mitsvah (those things cost an insane amount - LOL)... A great page of original art (A Romita Sr Spidey page or Byrne X-men page, for example)... Shelf space is also quickly becoming a reason to start considering moving some things... I can't stand the idea of having product in boxes. I prefer to let it go than let it collect dust in a closet somewhere. Ultimately, it's all about priorities.

DFury
12-10-2005, 12:23 PM
Risingstar,

Thanks for the support, yes it is all about Priorities, a few yrs back I had to sell off my collection to pay for medical bills, I did what had to be done..

Right now what is the hardest is trying to figure out what stays and what goes, I like them all so much :) plus there is also the shelf space issue, I have a half dozen Fs and about 20 busts sitting in there boxes and No room to display them, I was going to buy 3 new cases but a sell off would save me cash there.. Its a hard thing to decide I have been debating this for the last two weeks, Leaving for Davenport here in the next half hr to spend time with family for my Youngest boys birthday and to take pictures of the Car and to give my friend my answer, He will Hold the car untill I raise the Money..

take care, I need to run..

I have been away and wanted to comment on the flipping thing. I don't think it is flipping if you are selling something that you have had a while. I think the flipping that upsets people is when flippers order statues just to turn and sell them on the secondary market.

Its upsetting when you want a certain figure and you miss out because you were away from your computer for a while or didn't win a lottery and then to see people on here RUB IT in your face that they got one just to flip it. I wanted a Gold Bucky, I didn't get one, fine, but when people were on here saying how there was no way that they were keeping it but they got one to flip, that pissed me off.

Anyway I've sold some stuff of mine to pay off credit cards and to my my fiance's ring so I personally think there is a big difference between sellers and flippers.
