Randy wants to know if we want a Astral Form Dr. Strange fullsize variant.

Only if its a diffrent sculpt (Flying) and there is enough for everyone.

Too bad there is no way to keep people accountable for their votes. The would have avoided the whole fiasco of the shortage of Phasing Visions. Or at least find some way of ensuring everyone that voted yes got one.

Nope. Not realy a well known character here in europe.

I am assuming that an astral form statue would be like the clear Invisible Woman statue. It would not be like the Phasing Vision or partial Invisible Woman statue because there is no transition between Doctor Strange's human form and the Astral form. He just meditates and the Astral form appears.

Seems too much like the PV to really be unique. I'd probably pass, too, though if it was markedly different from the standard statue, I might be swayed.

I'd like to see at least a demo of what it could look like.
Would it be like the clear Invisible woman?

Is there a tentative plan?

Well if they do use the same sculpt they would have to remove the cape. His astral form doesn't usually have the cape along for the ride. I voted no as I could not see the point of an astral (all translucent white) Dr. Strange. Give us the Dread Dormammu in FS instead.

Just a quick tangent...

With a team with the strongest being on Earth, the Sorceror Supreme, an Atlantean mutant, an Asgardian warrior-maiden, and a Herald of Galactus what exactly were Nighthawk and Hellcat there for?

rychehitman

Hellcat = T and A....you dont look at a Valkyrie with those thoughts......EVER!

Tetragrammaton
12-17-2005, 06:13 PM
:) True enough.

How / where would you display the astral Dr. Strange (with the current FS)?

Maybe a flying version would be the best way to go but at that point does it even become worth doing another sculpt?

I wouldn't say it needed to be, but if variant there was, that would be by far the better pick, in my opinion. Between the head and the gloves, the lack of a skirt, and the different collar though, I'd say it was a lot more tricky a customisation than many.

Since I am absolute sucker for the sorceror supreme, I would probably buy it.
However, I am plugging for something extra on the sculp though... Just a clear statue seems boring and unimaginative. However, I don't see BD making a whole new sculp just a limited variant.

msw313
12-18-2005, 01:49 AM
I grow weary of variants that are created solely for the sake of being a variant.

A variant should have a real valid reason for existence. The Namor black costume/green trunks, for example, depicting two distinctly different long-established looks of the character.

If a Doc Strange variant were to be made, the previously mentioned superhero costume version would qualify as a valid variant. A clear "astral body" version of the unaltered original sculpt would not, IMO.

I would have to pass on this, regardless of low # or flippability.

Grumpy
12-18-2005, 01:59 AM
Since the regular version hasn't even sold out yet why is a varient even being discussed? Seems to me there are so many other characters that should get the FS attention before another Dr. Strange.

You're right, a clear statue would be boring AND also incorrect, since heroes can "see" Dr. Strange when he is intangible. If done, perhaps the astral version should be made in clear resin and then lightly sprayed in white, so it would still have the transparent effect but also show detail.

I do agree a perfectly clear sculpt would not be appropriate for the astral variant.

rychehitman
12-18-2005, 11:33 AM
The Astral form has been both visible and invisible to the naked eye...i think it is Doc's choice at the time!

That photoshop image looks great! I would buy that one OVER the original actually!

risingstar
12-18-2005, 11:45 AM
The thing is that pose isn't a typical astral form pose...

The Astral form doesn't typically stand. It hovers, floats, or flies. It doesn't walk (why would it since it can't anyway?). Other times, it phases (for lack of a better term at this hour of the AM) through walls or other solid objects.

rychehitman
12-18-2005, 11:51 AM
again, i say Randy just includes a tube of Bowen Designs patented transparent paint with each FS purchase...that was everyone can do their own partial, or full astral form without having to do a true variant!

Right?

A small amount of white dye can be added to the clear resin to make it like watered down milk .. that was we did with the base for Magik and it's a really cool effect.

Maybe create another Strange statue where he is meditating with the astral form coming out of him, smilar to the picture posted by Rhchehitman. I think that would be pretty cool, but on the other hand if they were going to go through all that I would like to see a new character.
I have to also say I am a big fan of different poses other than standing, like the sculpt i saw for the Beast on all fours, that is sweet. :buttrock:

Good point by Tao, and others who've made the same observation.

Astral forms in Marvel U (whether Doc, or Baron Mordo, or Prof X, or whoever) are always depicted as flying or floating, never standing. Using the standing pose for an "astral" variant would not be true/authentic to the source material.
