It's a scam , intended to shock people , got this through a year ago or so and was shocked indeed.
Browsed the net for more info on how this could exist and it came out to be a sick joke.

Who would buy this anyway!!

This is absolutely not real. It is a very sick joke. My oldest daughter is a huge animal lover and she came home from school with this one day. The kids were all extremely upset and they wanted to do something about it. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and thought that it couldn't possibly be real. I did some poking around and found out that it is a total fabrication. I guess it's like one of these urban legends that make their way around.

Either this guy's got a really warped (but very dry, practically clinical) sense of the absurd or someone should be contacting the Anti-Cruelty Society pronto . . . .

Unfortunately, my intuitions are indicating a wild swing toward the latter possibility, the needle buried in the red.

You do shake your head for a bit when looking at this. My daughter was almost in tears when she brought this site home from school. I had to calm her down and then get rational. This just can't be. I did some poking and found out that thankfully it wasn't though I wouldn't put it beyond someone. But it's just not possible. Here is something I pulled off the web:

Bonsai kittens are not real. Nobody is making bonsai kittens. Nobody is selling equipment to help people make bonsai kittens. Nobody is instructing people in the "lost Eastern art of sealing kittens inside rectilinear jars."

The Bonsai Kitten web site is a joke, not an actual promotion for the making of bonsai kittens. Investigations by law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, have already determined no real cats were harmed in the creation of the pictures used on the Bonsai Kitten web site. Signing a petition to shut down the Bonsai Kitten web site will not prevent any kittens from being harmed, because no kittens were harmed in the first place.

It was all a joke, one which some say was in terribly poor taste. If that was your reaction, take comfort in the knowledge that many others thought the same.

How could you have known the Bonsai Kitten site was a satire despite its lack of "This is a joke!" banners emblazoned across it? Satire doesn't always announce itself as such (some feel that would ruin its humor), so in cases like this, one dusts off the common sense and aims it at the problem:
The process described is impossible: animals so treated would die long before they could be "molded."

The web site offers no way to purchase the materials advertised. A real commercial enterprise wouldn't build consumer interest through a flashy web site then fail to offer anything for sale. (The site does include a page of "Helpful Tools & Supplies" but provides no form through which they can be ordered.)

The "Bonsai Kitten" site displays no actual pictures of the finished product. There are plenty of pictures of kittens in jars which can comfortably accommodate them (cats are quite elastic and can fit into very small spaces without discomfort), but there are no photographs of molded kittens on display.
The cruel.com web site offers an article entitled "Happiness is a Rectilinear Kitten," their comprehensive history of the furor and media coverage generated by the Bonsai Kitten web site throughout its first year of existence.

Zurb, your email really calmed me down. I was very upset (tears and everything) wondering who where when and how to contact someone to deal with this very messed up individual. I think this link would never have been missed, but might have been better recieved closer to April fools day or halloween. Sick and Wrong. Sick and Wrong. I am with Zurbies little girl. Terribly upset now probably for the rest of the day. Joke or not. !! :(

Word. My wife looses it when she hears about cruelty to dogs. Sometimes she watches animal planet, that "animal police" show and it drives her to tears. God know why she tortures herself with that stuff, it makes me upset even, puppies thrown in the trash and all that crap.

We are going to try and adopt a puppy from a rescue place or the pound. That was the #1 reason in my wifes mind for us owning a house, having a dog...

Well, I take back what I said earlier. I don't completely dislike cats. They're actually quite tasty flame broiled with a little sharp cheddar and some freshly ground pepper . . . .

That is such a great thing to do!!............ Animal planet really gets to me sometimes too. I was so upset one time watching AP about elephants that when John got home, he thought someone had died. I don't know why we torture ourselves either, I think sometimes just knowing that there actually is a species chain of order is sadening enough, but it is the cycle of life. We have a rescued dog, and have had her for about 4 1/2 mo, and she is just now warming up to John. It has been a long haul to build trust, and my heart hurts for her to have been so abused, but I know that she is in a good place now, and that makes me happy. :) You will be a hero to your new pet, just don't let that go to you head......Pick a pet that won't eat pie, and I think your golden. hehehehehehehe, Baking that Oregon Blackberry Pie as I type. It won't make it for Christmas but New Years for sure. :)

word tat s. I actually have a real problem with a lot of Zoo's as well for the same reasons (the Zoo in Madison, WI where I lived was MISERABLE, and those animals HATED it I tell you).

My wife has a pretty big heart, so I know she'll pick the saddest, lonliest dog she can find and make him (or her) happy. I'm cool with that. I just hope she can pick just one, I can easily see her picking two or three... :inquisiti

And dogs don't eat pie, do they?

Okay...shifting gears.

My wife and I took the kids to the store to buy a 25lb bag od kitten food to drop off at the "puppies house" ( aka the shelter that we got our puppy from this past summer!) for christmas!

Shelters take in a whole lot more strays over the winter and could use any donation you could spare. not necessarily money....dry dog or cat food goes a long way!
