Mini Busts have gone through quite a transformation over the past few years... What started out as a simple head piece attached to a partial torso fastened on to a simple block-like base has now been turned into full half-bodies with full length arms, flowing capes, tails, weaponry, you name it, all attached to wonderfully creative bases. Some might say this was a reflection of companies doing what they can to "keep up with the Jones'".
Now don't get me wrong. I love the changes that have been made and I am in no way campaigning for esthetic changes, however, I wonder if these pieces should still be called "busts". I wonder if they should be called something else.
The term "busts" meant one thing for literally thousands of years. Now, over the past couple of years, it encompasses more than it ever seemed to have intended.
Should Webster's dictionary put an addendum to its present definition in order to recognize this modernized "bust"? Or, should a new term be created?
Any thoughts?
