You can see a pic of the MR Y-Wing that is supposed to go up for order next week. So, who is getting one? I think I'd like to get one to go with my AT-AT.

My questions are:

1. Price. If it's $500 or less, than this purchase is a no brainer. I'll have to think about it if it's closer to $1k.

2. Is it exclusive to the MR site? If not, then I'll wait a while for Ebay like WookTroop did with the AT-AT.

3. Edition Size? I wonder if it will be a low run around 500 or so?

We'll see next week.

elwood, I'm not sure but I think Wook got his AT-AT from FAO Schwartz. They had a huge deal on them.

You're right Zurb, but the same principle applies. The Snowspeeder is much cheaper now also.

Once I get the answers to my questions above, I'll decide whether to order it now or wait. I don't want to pay $400 more than those who wait again.

im not a big fan of the Y-Wing
what role did it play in rotj exactly, a fly by ship?

and yeah i dont think id ever pay MSRP for any MR products its just silly unless you know you are getting a low number or an AP it is to much of a gamble

Cool. I'm gonna have to stick with just the AT-AT SE for now. No space and no money for any others. Not complaining though, the AT-AT is an awesome iconic piece.

Retailers can carry the Y-Wing.

Thanks Mike. :)

Depending on the ES/price, then I may hold off for a while.

This piece is beautiful, though. It looks like they did away with some of the "rust" from the prototype.

That's correct. I wonder if they will offer it separately? I remember Steve D. saying that we would be "pleasantly suprised" about the display options that MR offered for the Y-Wing. I wonder what he meant by that?

maybe for $4.99 they will sell you some hooks and some fishing line?

How about an acrylic case with some kind of background pic ?

Are future owners afraid to see an SE in less than a year ?

That's sweet! It's obviously a Turbolaser from the Death Star base. I'm getting excited to see pics of the final version now.

Shangrilien, I seriously doubt they will release another version of this. It already has its own base, and there is really no one important enough for them to release an SE later. The only person I could see signing this would be Dennis Muren or one of the Gold squadron pilots from ANH, but I wouldn't be concerned on missing any of their sigs. Muren might be a nice addition to the piece, though. :)

the real question is, are future owners afraid their $1300 collectable will be easily had on ebay for $900 or less?

I don't think this will be nearly that expensive. If it is, then I'm not buying. My range is probably $600 max without a case. That includes the aftermarket price from Ebay/dealers.

Yes, I think Steve mentioned that the he designed a Turbo Laser Tower as plaque holder (seems like MR did improve this a little bit :) )
Well, any info about the price yet? I think it´ll be the same price range as the Nautilus. But it does need a case as well (I hope if MR does ofer cases that retailers will get theese as well as I really do not want to think about importing theese to Germany :banghead: )

I'm with you Elwood....love the detail. The base really bothers me and actually distracts from the ship. Really wish they would have gone with the full detailed base instead. $699 (after CS coupon) is a bit steep for something that doesn't scream "perfect" at me.

Yeah, for $799 ($699 after coupon), they can keep it. It also appears that the edition size is open.

I'll keep my money until they make the Falcon or Vader's TIE. I have the AT-AT, so I can only get 1 more ship. MAYBE 2 more. I just don't want my display to look cluttered.

An Ep. II Jedi Starfighter or the Ep. III ships that Obi and Ani fly at the beginning (can't think of the name right now) would be great too, even if there was no original model. They made the Clone helmets and Yoda's saber without an original model, so why not the SS Prequel ships?

Mike
01-30-2006, 01:16 AM
On the edition size. It isn't open like the 2005 LEs were "open" last year. It is more like the Sideshow style with a TBD edition. The edition will be announced before the item hits and the plaque will be XXX of XXX intstead of the dual plaque thing.

It's possible the proto base will be the base for the SE or EE or CE or whatever other editions they plan on releasing.

Seriously though no case sux. Plus I never knew one of these existed until I started playing SW games. Not exactly a major piece in the SW saga. Definite no purchase at this price.

The Y-wings have started shipping now so folks should be receiving theirs very soon.

Some detailed pics would be nice if anybody here gets one. I'm still considering getting one but was a bit turned off by the base redesign and paint job on the proto (basic airbrushing rather than proper weathering).

Be interesting to see how they turn out...

Somebody over at Rebelscum got their Y-Wing today. I'm not overly impressed with it's outcome really. However, MR did make the canon removeable now. It's no longer a permanent part of the stand. That's a BIG plus in my book.

If you want to venture over there and take a look, click HERE. (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1977622&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=3&vc=1)

Thanks for the link, Weasel. The removable cannon is much better, tho it looks a bit odd now not being part of anything.

Still not convinced on the Y-Wing's paint app. The weathering on earlier studio scale ships was nicely done, but it seems quitely crudely airbrushed with this one. Need to see bigger/more detailed pics first.

I agree with the weathering. The grey smudges just don't quite cut it. There's something about this one that just doesn't sit right with me. I don't have the other three MR studio scale pieces (Snowspeeder, AT-AT, AT-AT SE) but I do like those. This one just looks off. It's gotta be the paint app or something.
