But it would have been better if they made a more agressive Rancor,

what about a Luke Skywalker vs Rancor?

Oh, and with full frontal nudity.

Its cool.

But it would have been better if they made a more agressive Rancor,

they couldn't with the pose they picked- since the keeper has it by the chain and he's the master, i would expect the rancor to be calm...if it were pitted against luke then the wild rancor would be expected.

Look at the pics they posted on Rebelscum of the whole GG display - This piece looks too puny – I don’t think it’s in scale with the other statues… :banghead: :banghead:

Incredible... maybe I would prefer a Luke vs. Rancor Diorama but since we already have the Luke on Taun Taun, I guess it would be too many Lukes.
Damn. GG stop making those awesome pieces .. I need a life !

JSA
02-13-2006, 01:37 AM
I'll definitely be getting this one for my collection. I don't like the pose 100% and
would have preferred a more dynamic, action pose, BUT it is the best (only) Rancor
statue/diorama out there besides that latex thing, and the Bowen Bronze Rancor,
so this'll have to do for a good-looking-and-yet-still-affordable Rancor.

Agreed. This statue is awesome but pisses me off at the same time. Your probably wondering why??? It pisses me off because I start thinking of why the F did GG go with the black block base for the Biker Scout diorama?????? It's obviously a diorama because it's not in scale with the other statues so why didn't they have a forest themed base???? Every other dio had one, this really burns me up. They really should make up for this and come out with a forest base for that piece and sell it at a decent price. F'n retards. :banghead:

P.S. I hate that black block base they're using. I still buy the statues but they could have made way better bases. I like that's it's simple but it's a pretty lousy base.

The detail on this is spectacular! I love the added touch of having drool dripping from his mouth. This is easily going to be one of my favorite statues along with the sandtrooper on dewback. I hope the luke on taun taun kicks @ss too as it should be released next month, although I'm wondering on that release date now as the statue wasn't shown at toyfair but maul was.

Did the movie ever show the beast to be chained before going out to rumble with Luke?
Although it's an excellent piece, I felt the rancor had an attitude of eat anything that moved...including his owner, which makes the diorama IMO less dramatic.

Yes it did have metal around the wrist with what looked like a broken chain on it. The Keeper and the Rancor had some sort of parent like bond which makes this piece work for me.

Heres a crazy thought!! What if the speeder bike isnt part of the same range as the others and thats why it has a different base!! Dewback & Stormtrooper, Luke & tauntaun and now Rancor & keeper all feature man and beast - the speeder bike doesnt so maybe the black base for the scout trooper represents the cold sterile harshness of the empires machines of war!! And maybe when GG do another vehcile in this range it will have the same black base (that everyone seems to love...)

Come on people work with me on this one!!

I like the piece... but Gentle Giant is not going to lure me back into their web of deceit... I refuse to be bullied by their beautiful pieces and wonderful statues... That and they will probably make this a 5000 to 10,000 edition run.

Yeah, maybe it should have been holding Luke like in the scene where he stuck the bone in its mouth when it was about to chomp him. That would have been cool. Having said that it is an impressive piece from the looks of it.

The Big Man
02-16-2006, 06:43 PM
I like the fact that it isnt an obvious Luke vs rancor diorama. Not many people who arnt fans will know who the guy next to the rancor is which is a nod to the expanded universe and if you have read the tale of the rancor keeper from the novel tales from jabbas palace you instantly know why gg have chosen the rancor keeper. This little tale also revels why the rancor is happy to stand next to him and isnt trying to eat him!!

That is what I would have bought.

Rancor holding Luke. Luke holding the bone in his hand.

I like the pose of the Rancor and think the piece is a great representation of the characters we saw in ROTJ. It illustrates the relationship between the beast and his keeper perfectly IMO.

If this diorama line continues I'd love to see a Tusken Raider on Bantha from the OT and if they were to do a prequel piece Obi-Wan VS. the Acklay from AOTC or him riding the Boga from ROTS would be great.

If it's true, it would be the most expensive GG piece to date, and I think it would limit the ES to like 1,500 pieces. I would still get it from the secondary market (Ebay) though.
