I was rooting around in my room and found some really cool stuff, (and some not so cool stuff, and a huge spider that I'm too afraid to move so is now co-habitating with me, and some dust) that I was gonna show you. But my scanner is dead, soon to be buried.
All is not lost though, I'm gonna ask Vicki to bring the Digi-camera round to me so I can take pics instead :buttrock:
I'll run through some of the coolness I found.
Basically, a comic company over here called Panini started printing a monthly comic that featured reprints. you'd get three comics in each monthly edition, which you could pick up from any local newsagent.
There was Essential X-men, Astonishing Spider-Man, Marvel Heroes Reborn, Wolverine, DD and Hulk, etc
Now I used to get these back when I was a wee nipper, and couldn't get to a comic shop (and didn't have any £)
I racked up a fair few issues, which I'm now gonna keep to introduce my future kids to comics.
The important thing is they had free gifts, that were obviously UK exclusives, and really limited.
Some were good, others....not so.
I'll run through what I have, then post pics when I can.
1) Four Marvel Phonecards, one from each title that was out at the time;
i) X-men vs Onslaught
ii)Wolverine vs Cyber
iii) Iron Man vs some Robot thing????
iV)Daredevil and Spidey vs The Hand
2)The set of 12 Postcards that were free with certain issues.
i)3x X-Men
ii)3x Spidey
iii)2x Wolverine
iv)4x Marvel Heroes Reborn (Iron Man and FF)
3)Four fold-out pocket booklets
i)The Wolverine Battle Files
ii)The Incredible Hulk History
iii)The X-Men Villains
iv)The Spider-Man Saga
4)A load of sticker sheets of Marvel characters. The cool thing about these were that they were those stickers that you could peel off and stick on glass and window (bedroom/car) cos apart from the writing and character the stickers were transparent.
5)The set of 7 character stickers
Gambit
Wolverine
Sabretooth
Thing
Venom
Dr Doom
Spidey
6)Now this is quite possibly the best thing. The Panini issues ran their own Trading card set entitled 'Marvels Greatest Villains and Villainesses'
you could only get the whole lot if you subscribed, they had to eventually cancel the set because they got less than 100 subscriptions for the new title they were pushing!
I've got all 24 cards! :buttrock:
Villains:
1.Dr Doom
2.G.Goblin
3.Magneto
4.Ultron
5.Mephisto
6.Apocalypse
7.Venom
8.Doctor Octopus
9.Loki
10.Sabretooth
11.Thanos
12.Galactus
Villainesses
1.Dark Phoenix
2.Hela
3.Enchantress
4.Nightshade
5.Lady Deathstrike
6.Gatecrasher
7.Mystique
8.Typhoid Mary
9.Viper
10.Deathbird
11.Morgan Le Fey
12.Alkhema
The next lot of stuff isn't from those comics, but it's still good.
7) These are fantastic too. This breakfast cereal called Sugar Puffs were giving away Cards on the Box-Fronts to coincide with the release of the X-men cartoon in this country.
All Jim Lee art, very shiny and glittery! They were available for like, a month. so I had to eat 6 Massive boxes of a cereal I didn't even like to get these frigging things!
6 in all;Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Gambit, Archangel and Rogue
8) A pack of two promo card's for the 2001 Marvel Legend's series. featuring art from Joe Mad apparently
One Spidey, One Daredevil, both still in their cellophane wrapping.
9) Last but definitely not least, A promotional pack for Spider-Man 2 that one retail outlet in the UK got, and it hust happened to be the one I worked for!
I didn't know anything a bout it til I saw it in the bin when I was taking rubbish out! I then jumped into the bin, which was the size of a skip, got covered in crap, but salvaged the pack.
It's got a mini cardboard stand-up, all of the promotion posters, I think they did four. one of the Big promo posters, and some window stickers, all in pristine condition. :buttrock:
I promise I'll post pics as soon as poss. But I found a pic of the doom card from the villains/villainesses set.
