Welcome to the Madjazz Madcaps Gallery and Archive! Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter!
Hi - I am reconstructing this Gallery. The move to eliminate HTML killed it. Lou helped lead me to Photobucket and I am trying to restore this Gallery to include all previously issued Madjazz Madcaps. Once that is done, now that I have a way around the HTML issue, I am going to try to restart the Madcaps.
Please do not post in this thread. The posts will be deleted. The intention is to relock this thread and when the Madcaps are ready to continue, they will be in a separate thread where your comments will not only be welcome, but encouraged. Hopefully you will not need to wait that long for me to get to that point.
Come talk to me over in the Ultimate Forum Group (NYC Mafia) thread in General Discussion in the meantime. http://www.statueforum.com/showthread.php?t=47377
Last Week’s entry: Madjazz Madcaps Gallery – #37 – Hey Randy - Defenders!
Original Post Date: 14-Jul-2006
Features: Painted Silver Surfer, Hulk, Doctor Strange, Submariner
This wasn't the last Madcap done, but it is one of my favorites!

Note: The most current Madcap will appear in this first post a few days after appearing on the ongoing Madcap thread. The “Madjazz Madcaps” gallery/archive follows this post in chronological order.

The point of this gallery is to archive all the Madjazz Madcaps so that you can see them without having to page through conversational posts.
The actual Madjazz Madcaps thread and conversation can be found over here:
{thread link to be added}
The most recent Madjazz Madcaps on that thread starts here:
{thread link to be added}
Comments welcome and keeps the thread bumped so it appears on the "New Posts" listing on a Friday!
jdh.goodgrief has graciously allowed this Gallery a home in his section of the forum. He’ll be unlocking the thread so I can update the gallery and relocking the thread when I’m done. Please keep any posts about Madjazz Madcaps to the main thread, and check out some of the other great features in the Good Grief! section while you are here.
Oh yeah – Randy, if you are reading this, we need a Valkyrie FS. Why? Because chicks with a sword AND a spear are just plain cool! :)

This was the very first Madjazz Madcap. It was one of those thoughts where people would raise an eyebrow if I said it out loud, but it translated nicely into 2-D.

The armed vs. unarmed debate resurfaces as it always does.
Shortly after I had done the first Madcap, I had to pack up the entire Madjazz collection and get ready to move. I had no access to my busts from April to October. Once I got my busts unpacked, I wanted to try my hand at another Madcap. These were the result. At the time, I counted “Unarming Humor” as two separate Madcaps.

“Shoot This Dog” was the first Madcap to kick off the current Madcap thread. The others to that point had all been called “Friday Fun”. I had asked for suggestions for a better name, and I think the Madcap idea came from jdh.goodgrief.
This was an homage to the infamous January 1973 National Lampoon magazine cover. These are the folks who produced Animal House, Up the Academy, and the Chevy Chase Vacation movies. With apologies to DeNiro, this one goes out to the NYC Mafia. There has been a variety of opinion expressed on Mr. Fixit, but it is one of my personal favorites.
As background for the internationals, Verizon Wireless did a series of commericals in the USA to highlight their extensive cell phone network. They used a guy walking around talking into his cell phone saying "Can you hear me now?".

I was kind of going on a riff here and could not decide which way to go with this one. I figure, what the heck, go with all three.
Man-Thing is one of my all-time favorite Bowen busts and is joined by Man-Thing as one of my favorite Bowen Fullsize.
Two important things about Man-Thing/Ghost Rider. One – Whoever knows fear burns at the touch of the Man-Thing. Two – The Dakota Fanning reference is a nod to the Don & Mike Radio Show.

I've always liked the Wolverine character and wanted to insert the (then) new Wolverine bust into a Madcap. The thought popped into my head that the other Wolverines might be jealous. Throw in a show-tune and it’s an instant classic. :)

This was the official Madjazz Madcaps "Salute to Martin Luther King Jr.". The previous Madcap had some tie-ins, but this says "official" in the title so it is OK. I did leave out Black Bolt so I only reused one bust. Kind of hard to leave Luke Cage out of an Offical Salute to Reverend King.
Bonus Madcap this week. Winzs sent me a picture and wrote "I had these on my shelf like this and was thinking about "No more mutants" or "this is for the house of m" or even for Hawkeye? But I figured you might be able to add some humor to it." Here is the result, and I hope you think it is in "fashion".

The answer to the question “Does the Punisher wear Boxers or Briefs?”.
It was hard getting a good picture with Fury in there and not making the arm look distorted. It didn't look right with the body turned sideways. With the arm sticking towards the viewer, that Hitler salute sticks so far out from his body that either the hand looks freakishly large or the body looks freakishly small. I still wonder what fennix would have done?

This was three for the price of one. The previous one I thought would bomb and people liked it. I thought these were cool. I had three for the price of one and had even solicited Forum Participation to come up with captions on the first one. The reception was mediocre at best. Maybe it was the day?
I had the thought to do See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil. It's an iconic image. The "See" and the "Speak" are easy to identify. I never had a brainstorm for the "Hear" so I just let it percolate in the back of the brain.
I was having a conversation with jdh.goodgrief and he also brought up this idea. jdh says "Use Hawkeye". I say "Hawkeye?" jdh then reminds me of the storyline during the 80's where Hawkeye was losing his hearing. Hawkeye it is.
Having the iconic trio down, I started thinking about those monkeys' lesser known brothers. I used one non-Bowen bust in this group because it worked just a little too well.

I bought the Vader bust at the NYC Con week before last. I was joking about Luke and Leia at Dinner saying - "Luke - she's your sister, but it's only wrong if she knows!" It was funnier over beer, but I press the limit of tastefulness and that becomes today's bonus.

Happy Easter, StatueForum.Com!
My wife laughed out loud at this week's offering, so I think you’ll like this one. I had to make a little prop for the gag, and it worked well enough that I even threw in a Bonus Madcap!
In addition to the Hulk (who is a show stealer here, in my book) we get some hints as to the origin of Doop. For those legions of B.O.T.H. fans, I also found an excuse to work in the recent Beta Ray Bill bust.
In case anyone was wondering - the bunny ears are 2 cotton balls and a small piece of pipecleaner. No busts were harmed in the making of this Madcap! :)

OK, four exceptions in one week: 1 – I’ve used a FS instead of a MB. I’ve done it before, but I like sticking to the busts. 2 – No Bowen product. I’ve used pieces from other manufacturers before, but I’ve always included Bowen pieces. 3 – Post on a Thursday night instead of Friday Morning. That’s because my flight home from Canada got cancelled, my rescheduled flight is for early in the morning, and with the Holiday weekend starting, I’d rather get the Madcap up early than late. 4 – It is a sober Madcap. It is intentionally not funny. Seriously.
I went with the Diamond Select Marvel Milestones Captain America as I wanted to do something with Independence Day. With the BBQ’s, fireworks, and most people having the day off, I wanted to be reflective on what the Holiday means to me. The Cap bust wasn’t giving me the vibe I was going for, and the Bowen Cap FS came out long before I was collecting FS.
Take a moment out of your long weekend to remember the men and women who have paid the cost to earn and defend the freedoms that we take for granted every day.
After that, have a beer and hopefully enjoy some sun! http://jm.g.free.fr/smileys/beerchug.gif

If everyone else in creation can do a “Hey Randy” thread, then why can’t I? Of course, it has to be Madcaps-style!
Randy commented this past week that Nighthawk was indeed in the plans for Phase III. We kind of hoped. We kind of thought. With every passing Sneak Peek, though, the Phase was starting to look rather full. It’s no secret that I can’t wait for Defenders busts of the heroes that really gave that series its character.
