Heart says England, as always. My head hasn't read up enough yet. You would have to say Brazil, but then the tournament is in Europe. I hope the US do well though, as they deserved to go at least a round further last time, and were very unlucky to go out.

Your Brazil? What, you sold all your statues and bought the team? :)
Ronaldhino is amazing. Best player in the world. I was lucky enough to see him play last summer when we were in Spain.

Ronaldhino is amazing. Best player in the world. I was lucky enough to see him play last summer when we were in Spain. He is. I met him when he was about 18 years old and playing for Gremio. I saw him playing many times in Brazil, when he wasn't too famous yet. My sister, which is a soccer player manager, became a really good friend of him nowdays. I think I told you about that already, didn't I?

I think Henry is equally as good and both failed to shine in the Champions League Final. I think Kakka for Brazil and Messe for Argentina will be the players to watch out for. Henry as good as Ronaldinho?? Sorry, forgot you're from Ireland, you don't know too much about soccer.... :eplus2: :)
Agree about Kaka, though. But watch out for Robinho, IF Parreira let him play some.

Who will pay the best price to get the world cup?
2002 brazil bought it as a revenge after giving it to france in 1998
1998 france bought it because the country was the host (stinky world cup)
1994 what a surprise brazil???
if you analyse this :
1994 nike
1998 adidas
2002 nike
2006?

Ronaldinho best player??? it's a joke!! people do always love players who make show and circus game with the ball but what is the purpose in that??
I prefer a classic player and a classic team where 11 players look like one player not individualities who make their show.

I prefer a classic player and a classic team where 11 players look like one player not individualities who make their show. So all Brazilian players are a joke then?? Football it's art, and this art already gave Brazil 5, not one or two, but 5(CINCO!) World Cups. So yes, art in soccer pays off. The proof is in the pudim. Having all players in the same page helps, but talent always it's a decisive factor. A true "craque" decides the game, even when his team are not playing well.

yes ronaldinho is a good player but too much shown in the media
there are plenty like him or better

If brazil wins this cup it would the greatest steal of the century:
fat ronaldo
old R. Carlos
non talented Dida
Kaka' maybe more motivated than usual (no it's a dream)
Ronaldinho mr give me the ball so i'll make the show

The first 3 World Cups Brazil won were beautifull, but played in a completly different era. Sure there's money involved today, which mass sport don't have??
Point is: Football Art stills wins, and Brazil it's here to prove. You will NEVER watch a boring Brazil vs Argentina game. Both teams plays beautifull to watch soccer, and both teams plays in the attack. THAT's soccer.

By the way, what you do in the football World, if you don't mind saying? I know MANY people .

Yes Henry is as good as Ronaldinho....this is not overstated. Also Ireland only has four million people and soccer is not the national sport yet we got to a 1/4 final and were only beaten by Italy (home nation) by 1 - 0 and we hit the post. I think Brazil has close to 100 million so you have a better chance would you not conceed. :rolleyes2

Yes Robinho has also got huge potential as Zidane has stated this week. But if Messe is fit I'd have him in my team before him.

My vote goes with Cap. What is the national sport there anyway?

Gaelic Football, Hurling and Handball. Oh and we are better at Rugby and the USA and Brazil I believe. :)

BTW we gave Spain a serious fright in the last major final with only a penalty saving your blushes. Spain the country with the best and most expensive football league who have failed continiously to win the World Cup. :rolleyes2

I guess, but when it comes to futbol I have to go with the ancestral homeland. It would be nice is the USA made some sort of impact so I will be rooting for them as well.

Wales havent been in the world cup since 1958 (when a 17 year old Pele scored his world cup debut goal against us in the quarter finals) so I am supporting England. When Scotland, Republic of Ireland or even Northern Ireland make it into the major tournaments I root for them as well. We almost qualified for USA 94 but havent had a sniff since :(

England have the best squad in my lifetime (born in '72) and being played in Europe is a big advantage over the real threats of Brazil and Argentina. Rooney will play eventually and be a key man in bringing the trophy home after 40 long years...

well ecuador took it 2-0, they mean business, very good defense, controled the pace of the game pretty much the whole time, their second goal was performed as easy as breathing and now they're tied with the germans as leaders of their division(well the germans are first).

poland played great offense and missed the two closest attempts by mere inches, both hitting the poles, very disapointing for them and the fans as you could see it on their faces.

great frist 2 games and a good start for this cup, lets hope it's just a taste of whats to come. :buttrock:

Very exiting games today, England vs. Paraguay from both teams great performance, but the brits had control throughout the game, and py had some good close calls but couldn't finish.

Sweden vs. Trinidad Tobago: great job by tt on defense keeping in mind that they only had 10 guys left, but the offense left a lot to be desired, no control of the ball what so ever after midfield, good job by the Swedish at controlling the game and keeping tt in a defensive state of mind.

Argentina vs. Côte d'Ivoire: the most exiting game of today, it keep you at the edge of your seat the entire time, Argentina taking the lead in the first half and playing beautifully, the second half was another story, they got a bit sloppy and the African team came out on a mission, they pushed the action and kept coming until they achieved a goal, and kept pushing until the end but was not able to tie the game, a very exiting team to watch.

But unhappily there is a national feeling, that there is YES, some manipulation on the part of the business, as somebody said here.
I don't want to believe in this, but after the cup of France it was a suspicion, we never swallowed Ronaldo's story.
I don't want him to happen to the soccer that happened in F1.

Best game of the tournament so far!

Both sides played well over both halves, which has been a new thing in this tournament.

It'll be a shame when one or both of these teams go out, but....

The Japanese were so fast on the ball and passed really well, but weren't clinical enough in the Aussie's area.

The Aussies defended well and hit well on the counter, but were a little too hard in the tackle.

After Tim Cahill came on, another dimension was added to the Aussies game.

Shame England weren't as good as either of these teams on Saturday :(

ronaldo choked a few times, disapointing, ronaldinho was isolated, but kaka came thru. :buttrock: Yesterday's Ronaldo told Brasilian press that he isn't in his best form, and that he was going to ask to get out of the game in the second half. I think Robinho NEEDS to start playing from the begining! Atleast from the begining of the second half. That kid can play! He is the next Ronaldinho G. Write it down this name, Robinho. I have been wtaching this kid since he played for Santos in Brasil. He is awesome and WANTS to play! :)

Kaka is a wonderfull kicker. Making goals like that it his speciality. Ronaldinho G was into the game, but Adriano and Ronaldo weren't. Adriano also NEEDS to come back to deffense more, like he started to do in the end of the first half. We can't have two men upfront, like trees, not coming back to help deffense. Hope Zagalo/Parreira will fix that.

I think Brazil are lacking up front with Ronaldo and Adriano misfiring. They may have to play Ronaldino up through the middle. The midfield played well but there central defensive unit were caught out on too many occassions. Croatia played very well in the second half but they lacked class in the final third. Brazil will have to improve significantly in the knock out stages, but i do expect them to. Robinho looked promising when he came on although he is easily knocked off the ball. Kaka was the man for Brazil today. Hopefully we will see an improvement in Ronaldino in the next game.

good win for the favorites. What is up with Ronaldo? He was invisible today. I would be a bit concerned with the defense ... they gave Croatia too many good looks and if the Croats could have struck a ball toward the post they would have scored a few times. They had some nice looks but could not finish - I recall 3 solidly struck balls directly at the goalie.

good win for the favorites.
Brasil tried to hold the result WAY too early! I hate that. We should keep in the offensive in the second half, relentless. A team that have Ronaldinho, Kaka, Adriano and Ronaldo playing together needs to be more offensive. That gave Croatia space, so they could create more and treat Brasil some. We also had two GREAT chances(the best with Adriano in the second half). But like I said, this is the first game in the competition, so mistakes are kind of expected. I'm happy with the 3 points we got. Very important in the first game and give any team more confidence.

Did anyone else notice just how poorly Adriano and Ronaldo played yesterday? They looked so tired, and Ronaldo barely looked interested.

There were a couple of times when he didn't even bother to run for the ball.

This isn't the Brazil of four years ago, anyone who thinks they looked sharp needs their eyes tested, if Croatia had've had a clinical finisher Brazil would've lost.

Half time at Spain-Ukraine

bar the first 16 mins a quiet half.

1st goal was very sloppy and the second was a deflected free kick, so not as one-sided as the scoreline suggests.

And Puyol completely set that up for Torres. Spain dominated and was relentless. This bodes well for them. They are the first team this year to take a 4 goal lead in a game. It would be good to see spain in the final, buit based on Brazil's performance yesterday, they'd have to lift their game a whole lot to trouble Spain.

In fact, many of the teams I expected to do well haven't hit top form yet: Germany, France, Brazil, Portugal, England and Holland haven't played that well at all, but have still scrapped victories.

The best teams so far have been Spain, Argentina, Italy, Croatia and the Aussies-who looked very sharp!

chack o n the sport channels you may catch the first half, they were pretty impresive i got to admit, but from there to say they'll beat brazil on the final it's a bit too much, not to put them down or anything, germany and italy are very strong this time around, specially italy, we may have the archenemies facing off this year italy-brazil, plus the czech republic can do some damage, it's a very exiting cup so far, alot of strong teams.
