I really hope it's Italy, particularly after they raised their performance to a whole new level the other night. France got a free pass to a World Cup in 1998, when they played poorly throughout (until the final against a 10-man Brazil) in a weak field. The cosmic balance will be restored if they miss out this time after overachieving in a strong field.

....I think Italy will also win the final.

Hard to say since both Italy and France are masters of 1-0 victories. But overall player quality and cleverness is a plus for the Italian team.

We're leaving now to go to a birthday party/dinner. So I won't be here to comment italian goals :D . Even if I hope a french victory (for the last official game Zizou is playing), great Italy team has high chances to gather another golden star.

Let this Final be one of the best ever played. Gentlemen, play fair, don't cheat. The world is watching you. And we want to enjoy it ! :buttrock:

That was never a penalty. Good to see a stronge response from Italy and Matarazzi equalise since it was him that gave away the penalty.

Hence me calling it a "weak" penalty :thumbs2:

I'm hopeful that second half will be as entertaining as the first 35 minutes, the last 10 minutes both teams got very sloppy

Italy had a goal disallowed for offside, I don't think it was the goal scorer who was offside though.. just waiting for a reply on that, they don't seem to be having much luck so far

France have been the better team in the second half but there isn't much between them. In truth it has been a poor match.

Not a lot you can do if you're looking the other way and they happen to be where your foot lands though.

I don't think it was the innocent mate, IMO he knew the player was there and simply tried to make it look like an accident, that's just my opinion though

Well it“s over. It was a truly aweful game and even worse way for such an awesome player as Zidane to end his career....

That head butt was flat out wrong and pretty much summed up my opinions about all the foul plays and controversial calls at this years World Cup. I hope they straighten out all the mess in 4 years, because it was ugly to watch this time around.

Congrats on winning the World Cup. But it has to be said on the night France deserved to win it. Zidane getting sent off was the turning point. Couldn't agree more, B. Zidane lost it completly, and in his last and more decisive game in his career. But France played better, no doubt. Very poor game overall. But congrats to the Italians.

I agree. The diving and trying to get fellow players is a cancer in the game. They need to sort it out.

Congratulations Italia and all italian fans over here (I'm particulary glad for Del Piero).

France clearly wanted to avoid penalties and dominated the end of the game without success. I'm ashamed by Zidane behavior. Not matter what happened ('cause something clearly happened), he shouldn't have reacted the way he did. Unfortunately it's not the first time he lost it. Too bad his career ends with such an aggression. Especially when he was one of the players to shoot a penalty kick. That doesn't take away what he achieved as a player but it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Anyway, I'm proud of my home team in general. We didn't expect to go so far. That's still a great performance even if we didn't win it. Now with all the retirements, we must focus on rebuiding a team and get ready for Euro 2008 qualifications where we'll meet Italy again.

Also a big thanks to forum members who supported France (you know who you are, we weren't a lot :D ).

An extra special thanks to some other fans for these (it helps a lot when you believe in jinx) :

Now, do any lip readers out there know what was said to Zidane? He's always had a bit of a Roy Keane temperament, but it would be fun to know what lit the fuse.
