Back in 2000, when work in animation was dry (I didn't work for about 5 months) I decided to take another crack at trying to get some comic book work. When SD Con was just couple of weeks away, I downloaded a script from the Marvel website and worked on penciling samples to show editiors. Because of the super long lines at the con and some numbering system to show the work in other companies, I was disenchanted and only managed to show my work to two editors from Marvel. They both said there was potential and will call me. Unfortunately, I never heard a word back from them. Probably good in my favor because work has been brisk in animation since then. Here's the samples I did back then for all to see.

Ah, I remember that issue well...
Thor returns from the Onslaught debacle only to find Asgard in ruins, and the Gods missing!
A bum claims to be Heimdal, and Thor takes him to Bifrost to prove his claim. Obviously he was not on the level!
Perhaps Tetra could post the original pages published by Marvel???
I think your layouts are great interpretations of the script provided. Your art, while a bit on the (for lack of a better word) "cartoony" side, could portray the Asgardians and the Golden Realm well! I could get into that! Your proportions are good, and your anatomy is done well for this style. Overall, I say "thumbs up" man! I'd buy it!
Do you have any other art to post?

Hey Rych, nice to hear your input. Would love to see the actual comic pages to see how the original artist translated the script. If anyone knows which Thor comic it appeared, give me a holler. As for more work, I have tons. But here's couple of pin-ups I did in the 90's before I started working in animation. Notice the difference in style and approach as far as simplicity goes. Logan piece was done in '95 and Luke Cage in '93 (Both were scanned from copies and not the original pencils, so it came out much darker then it should be.)

Thanks for the compliments, guys. With this new 'artist alley' section, be on a lookout for more of my old (and new) drawings on a timely basis.
JG, I did get published twice, once by Marvel and once by DC. On top of my head, the Marvel one I did was WonderMan #25 ( I think) when I penciled about seven pages because Jeff Johnson was late with his deadline. The DC one I did was in Showcase '94 (Don't remember the issue number, but it did have a Bart Sears Robin and Huntress cover on it) The segment I did there was a story on The Atom. With DC Editor Neal Pozner's untimely death at the time, my chances of earning a regular DC gig perished also. He was my only connection at the time and guided me to possibly land my next work.

Damn kaza, I had no idea you were talented. :)
Seriously, that is some awesome work you got there. Marvel's loss.

My favorite pic is the last panel of the thor pages, very Oeming-esque (big fan of that artist too)

Thanks again for the compliments, guys and gal. Here's more old stuff. The Ebony Warrior was a cover I was commissioned to do back in '93. Sadly, the company (can't remember the name) closed shop before this work saw the light of day. The Youngblood pin-up was another commission by Rob's editor back in '95. After submitting the work, it was returned four months later without payment and no note...just the original art work. On well...such was an example of how difficult it was to get work in comics.
