Every morning before tackling my assignment, I go on a routine to loosen up and sharpen my skills by doing very quick scribbles on a blank 8 X 11 paper or any loose paper (whether it be sticky notes, a page on a script, etc.) I just scribble away for the next five or fifteen minutes, depending on my mood. And always... I scribble with a ball point pen. I just like the looseness of lines to build structures and shapes. Unfortunately...I just got in the habit of saving these pages on the behest of my co-workers just couple of months ago. Here's a sampling. I did this one loosely for five minutes. Two characters started to shape into Batroc and 90's Vision.
BTW, I'm going to keep this thread open and share with all some of my daily scribbles with some updates. Sometimes it has a theme, sometimes it doesn't.

Here's another one I did few weeks ago...with the main theme here is Shang-Chi. I just draw anything that pops out of my head. All this was knocked out in just over ten minutes with ball point pen.

Here's one very quick sketch I did the day Randy Bowen previewed the awesome Kazar and Zabu mini-bust. I was inspired to draw Kazar and Zabu. I always thought Zabu looked small in the sculpt and quickly did this sketch in less than 2 minutes with ball point to see how I always envisioned Zabu's immense size.

Very Cool! I love to see sketches and such - There is a spontaneity and looseness to them that usually is lost in the finished pieces...

Hey guys, thanks again for the compliments. Here's another excercise I did last week, but spent a little more time because I had nothing to do for a day while awaiting script changes before the meeting. This one has the Barbarian theme and got carried away a bit and did more detailed work. All of this was done in HB pencil in about 40 minutes. The second drawing of Conan being surprised by a giant Cyclops was something I knocked in 20 minutes, also in HB.

Good stuff! I'm reminded of the great John Buscema. I got his "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way" when I was a kid and loved it. You've got a ton of talent!

Hey Rilynil, good for pointing out John Buscema. I was going to mention his name, but decided to hold off and see if anyone notices him in my work. John Buscema to me has been and will always be the source of my inspiration. When I was buying comics as a kid, I would search and grab any back issues with his name.

I learned how to draw from Buscema's book, although I don't have nearly the talent you do. You have the same sort of figure-in-motion style as he did. His Conan, Thor and Fantastic Four were among my favorites. And, of course, he drew a great Vision, as well, which scores a lot of points with me considering how I've always loved the character. Keep your sketches coming. I really enjoy seeing them!

I loved JB's stint with Conan, but his work from the silver age Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thor, Silver Surfer, and the early issues of Sub-Mariner are the works that I will always remember vividly. Here's a three minute sketch of Mr. Fantastic I did about a half hour ago in ball-point. So you like the Vision, eh? Just keep your eyes open during the week, could be your lucky day.

That's very kewl Kaza. I go through the same routine to loosen up. I love working with ballpoint as well cause some real nice stuff can come out of it. Though I regularly switch from a standard HB pencil, ballpoint, or a .5 mechanical which I've been using alot for the most part lately since I can get a good range with it and not have to sharpen.

Well...I'll try to get to Hulk (and Vision) sometime this week. Just swamped with deadlines right now, so no promises. Here's something already on my file. This was last week's 15 minute sketch on Cap and pals.

Yep, I like to keep things close to the vest, so as to maintain my air of mystery! My second choice of avatars is Mysterio, but I can't tell you that because I would rather remain mysterious. So I just won't comment at all on either the Vision or Mysterio. I was never here. You never saw me.

One more from my archive. I did this Thunderbird back in '99 in blue pencil. I always thought he was an interesting character who never got his due. And one of the best costume in the Marvel universe.

I am a very, very busy guy, and I find it a very time consuming process to scan, photoshop, and paste images to post, so I'm going to lay off on this for awhile. But here's couple more for those who enjoy looking at this stuff until I post again. Both color pieces were done back in 2000 when I was teaching myself to color with Photoshop. Peacemaker is a personal favorite. I would love to see him done as a statue or bust. The Avengers (along with FF4) were favorites as a kid growing up. Here's my take on them.

So THAT explains it! I can draw, but to do a sketch takes me a long time, and it never looks as nice and clean as yours. Again, great job and post more when you've got the time!

Being able to draw hands and feet is a big challenge for any artists, especially at different angles. It took me years to conquer. Here's something I knocked out in less than 15 minutes during my warm-ups last week. Also something from my archive, here's a Ms. Marvel sketch I did for a co-worker late last year.
