View Full Version : Constrictor Base!

Ok, here's part of my effort to make a few somewhat helpful threads.

The snake around the base of the Constrictor MB is a fantastic touch. I, being a big snake lover myself, can't wait. It should provide a great start to the Serpent Society and an excellent stand-alone bust.

What I ask is that research should be done on the snake itself. Being a constrictor, the two most logical breeds of snake for that one to be would be Python or Boa Constrictor. Both have very different looking heads and markings. An accurate an realistic paint application should really make it stand out well. The scale designs for both breeds are fairly simple. I ask this because I think it would really take me out of it to see the snake painted plain green or brown.

I have no doubt the actual character himself will look outstanding, but I think that a little touch like a realistic snake on the base would take it right over into a phenominal bust. Either way, this one will grace my shelf, I just hope that this would get some attention paid to it.

She's purty!

They could also go with an Anaconda (as long as the movie is not used for reference).

*Come on. Someone had to say it*

Be careful ... the last time someone suggested an alternative base, we ended up with the cube base Sasquatch fiasco.:confused2

I think it is more of a "let's get a better snake on the base" suggestion than a "change the base entirely" kind of thing but I could be missing something.

I totally agree here - that snake on the prelim pic doesn't look anything like a constrictor

Suppose Randy desides to do 3 different snakes ... all of them constrictors, with only 25 of 1 particular snake and spread them through out the run. You don't think that will have the same effect as the cube base Sasquatch? :peoples:

That's not the snake that is going to be on the base, you blind fools! That's an earthworm that got lost and burrowed into the sculptor's clay, only to be scooped up by accident when he was working on the base. Sheesh, get it straight.hahaha comic relief :stick: :D

Yeah, by no means am I suggesting snake variants. Variant bases are not exactly my cup o' tea, anyway.

The problem with saying it must look like a 'constrictor' is that roughly 70% of all snakes are constrictors. The other 30% are venomous.

The term constrictor basically means that the snake squeezes its prey to kill it and eat it. But that includes large snakes and small snakes. We tend to limit ourselves to thinking of Boas and Anacondas, because they are the only real threat to us.

Roughly 90% of all stats are made up on the spot. :D

All I was getting at is that is should be painted like a specific species, not a generic snake. And anacondas would definitely be inappropriate, since the scale and shape would be all off. For the snake on the base to be in scale with Constrictor himself, it would have to be one of the smaller sized constrictors, more like a Ball Python or young Boa. A Burmese, anaconda or one of the bigger species would look awkward and would have a much different head shape. I just would like it to not look like one of the many venomous breeds or small biters like grass snakes and such. It would be silly if Constrictor had small garter or racer snake on his base.

Of course, I'm not saying I won't buy the bust if this doesn't get done. I'm just saying it would probably look phenominal. Especially if other Serpent Society members get made and have their respective snakes sculpted with them.
