Damn it! Darn it! Frag it!!

It's pieces like this that tempt me strongly to do what I have successfully avoided so far...expand my "full sized superhero statues only" rule and get into full sized LOTR statues & props.

That is super-nice!!!

Iknow, I know...you're right. But if I go for it...it's gonna be all out, baby. The quality is so nice, I'll have to get all the ones I want or fraggin' bust. Some of the faces of the men & hobbits don't quite look right to me, but I'd have to get all the non-bust stuff.

Whew, that'd be a lot of work, too...

Is it reasonably "gettable" now (for January)?

Daredevil

Nope, they have spent the last 6 months working on this thing. I'm willing to bet the details on the statue will dwarf those of Randy's statues.

You wont' regret buying the LoTR stuff, your only regret is not starting earlier. The likes of the Cave Troll and Balrog are now touching $2000. They originally retailed at $300.

From the Sauron pic (thanks DD), I wish his legs weren't quite so thin-looking. They could've done this a bit different or had a cloak/cape cover this a bit. Anyone else note this?

Bullseye
12-12-2004, 02:12 PM
The picture I've seen has been too small, but I do take your point. It depends on how his cloak is finished i guess. But looking at the size of his gaunlet in the sculpters hand its going to be huge.

Its available at Elm Street, Spanish Website.

Speaking of Elmstreet Bullseye after I went and struggled with my Spanish to send them an inquiry this is what I got back from them:

gracias por su correo. Yo no soy espaƱol either & most important thing is
people understand each other (which normally does not depend on the
language). Sorry...I'm afraid it would cost a tremendous amount to send you
the bust to the States and you also have to keep in mind that we have to
charge you in ? and we don't do CC payment. I'm really sorry, but all this
does not sound like a good bizz for you.

Thx & best

elmstreet

I appreciated their response and it sounds as if for them to ship these LOTR Sideshow pieces to the US is probablygoing to be much more expensive and not worth the effort on our part. Too bad, they sound like a reputable outfit.

There's lots of sites that still sell the gauntlet for 350 or so. That should be the going price until it actually comes out during which the price on ebay will fall to as low as 270 or so.

That's what happened to the companion piece Sauron's Helm. Both are released by a companpy called United Cutlery that specializes in prop replicas including Lord of the Rings.

Master Replicas puts out the electronic version of the props and so far only has two products out. Sting and Sauron's Finger.

A few on-line sites I know of for sure that has this available are Kult of Athena and World of Weapons.

Hope that helps.

Sorry to necropost but I just got one of these and I'm having a hell of a time figuring out how to mount it because no instructions came in my box. I'm ashamed to have to resort to instructions (I'm a guy after all) but I spent an hour messing with the metal rods and I can't figure it out...

Anyone have one that knows which hole the two rods go into?

I have one short bent rod, and one long rod that I'm assuming is the main support. Then there is one hole in the center and one hole a level below that (both threaded). I'm thinking the bent rod is to keep the thumb from falling back too far but I'll be damned if I can figure how how to position it :(

'lil help would be awesome thanks :)

edit: also does the looped rod go into the index finger or middle finger?

Trilogy
01-30-2010, 06:37 AM
The bent rod does indeed support the thumb, which fits into the lower hole provided. Once the rods are in place slip the gauntlet over the top carefully manoeuvring it into position so the rods can slide into their relevant finger/thumb.

If I remember correctly it's somewhat of a loose fit, leaving the gauntlet simply hanging on these two supports.

I just spent another 45 minutes on the thing but when I mount it, it still leans way to the right :(

I'm assuming the logo plate goes in the front, the looped rod goes into the index finger, and the bent rod physically goes inside of the glove.

Only problem is that the bent rod's threads won't go all the way into the lower hole. Strangely enough the looped rod screws in perfectly to both holes. I'm probably going to have to drill the lower hole a bit to get the threads to fit.

The only way I can seem to get it balanced properly is with the looped rod into the middle finger though. That's not what the pics look like either:

1st pic- some guy mounted almost perfectly
2nd pic - 100% perfectly mounted
3rd pic - somebody put the loop in the middle finger incorrectly

You assume correctly.
The gauntlet does have a tendency to lean a little.
