Here is an awesome picture of a V-Rex Maquette that Weta used in producing the 2005 King Kong movie.

Anybody know if Weta is planning to make the V-Rex as a seperate Full Body Maquette? I would LOVE one of these!

I would love one of these too! :thumbs2:
But I doubt that they will make it, though. The statues they made for Kong, as well as Narnia, weren't good sellers. :(
But one can only hope. I was watching the WETA DVD(making of Superman Return statues) that came with my Daily Planet Superman Returns statue, and they showed many scenes inside WETA Studios, and you can see some nice statues on the background, from LOTR to Superman Returns. Really cool stuff!

The only new Weta King Kong product I know of is the mini statue in that DVD set, but that V-Rex maquette is awesome indeed!:thumbs2:

Why do you think Narnia and Kong were such poor sellers? Was it just advertising or Weta prices?

Maybe a bit of both, but one of the "biggest" reasons was that too much pieces were made and the movies weren't _that_ popular. You can see the stores and ebay pratically giving these away.
They cut it down edition sizes on the Superman Returns statues, which helped the sales a little, but then SR also wasn't the popular movie people thought it would be. But SR have some pieces that are sold out, or close to.

Good for the people that wanted a deal on these, that's for sure! ;) They are awesome statues, very well sculpted by the people at WETA.

I just got a newsletter from Tales of Wonder. They're selling the Kong VS Rex statue for $150. That seems like an incredible deal. Is it? Why's it being sold so cheap? I'm surprised that these have done so poorly.

I originally ordered this from my LCS on it's initial release but canceled when I decided not to buy any more movie related pieces. But for $170 shipped, this Kong vs. TRex was just too hard to pass up. I finally received it today during lunch.

Wow thanks for the Tales of wonder tip. It says it is free shipping eligible but in my shoping cart says 34 for shipping ( I am going to get last stand statue for $50 also ) does free shiping not work with sale items?

Thanks, Ed. This piece is definitely worth every penny. I rarely get this lucky and buy something this cheap because I tend to buy most of my pieces at initial release, so I usually just save 20% at the most. Consider this a reward for my long years as a collector.

I personally think looking back it was Weta not leaving the editions or the prices alone. That is normally when most people jump of the pre-order ship which means dealers had orders committed into who ever distributed these but couldn't cancel them from what I understand. So you have dealers with several pieces because of lots of speculating on the success of these lines since Weta was just coming off the insanly high valued LOTR line. I have few pieces from the this line and Kong VS rex is a bargain at $250 let alone what TOW price is now.

I recieved the statue from ToW yesterday and it is a hefty piece. I wasn't prepared for the size of the box. I opened it to check it out for damage and am very impressed with the details on the v-rex. Its a christmas gift for one of my sons and I can't wait to see his face.

Good eye! There's 300 of them in there and I still have three players that still work. Doesn't work well with the large 60" HDTV though.

I guess you also have a DVD player? Will you keep your Laserdiscs?
I already trashed mines years ago ...

Looks like I'm going to keep them. I'm too late to move them now and make even a small profit. Besides, I'd be lucky to find anyone interested in them. With three players still functioning, it still works great with my smaller TVs. Just having jumped into HD-DVDs, I hope I don't end up with the same problem with my DVDs in the future.

Ah laserdiscs. I've got about 200 of them gathering dust in my home theater. I still actually play one or two, but they're movies with no dvd release in sight, like the Giorgio Moroder "Metropolis," "The Monster Squad," and "El Cid." What a colossal waste of money, but back in the day when a 35" TV was big, they were the bomb.
