I understand that it is VERY rare - only 250 in the world.
But seriously, I could buy a car or invest that money into buying a house.
IMO, Randy's latest statues e.g. Juggernaut, Silver Surfer still look better than this sculpt.

That's a matter of opinion.

Bronze will last forever and is very hard to damage (not the case for resin, which can fade and break).

Key word is "Bronze" and it's not $5000 there was just a couple on the Bay under $3500

He means that the last few auctions for similar statues went for around $3500

exactly !!

It's contradictory that i'm posting this thread in a collectors forum (especially when I myself spend lots of money on statues). But why spend over $3000 just for 1 statue.
That's extravagant !!!

sh!t if that statue was getting 5 g's it would be hard for me to justify keeping it when the house needs a new washer dryer, and water tank

Sometimes I wonder where some people on eBay get their money (I wonder if any of them become broke)
They must either be super rich or make incredible sacrifices.

It's TRUE that collector statues are an investment. But there are more important investments that could be made with $3000.

It's all a matter of perspective, some may think spending $100 on a statue is ridiculous. No different than those who buy Ferraris and Lambos when a Ford will get them there just as well. Myself, soon as I find one with the original packaging, NM and less than $4000, it will be on my mantle. If anyone wants to sell one that fits the bill, PM me.

It took me a few months to decide to buy my first statue. I couldn't justify spending $135 on a porcelain statue of a comic book character.

But apparently I got over that feeling.

It took me a few months to decide to buy my first hooker. I couldn't justify spending $135 on a hooker dressed like a comic book character.

But apparently I got over that feeling.

Honestly, in person, the bronzes are extremely impressive. Cost is all a matter of perspective. I choose to spend lots on what other people would consider frivolous art when there are lots of other more important uses for that money like giving to the poor....luckily I was born without any shame and a wicked collector mentality so I can quickly stop any charitable feelings I get in favor of more superhero art :).

Everybody has their own opinion. When I bought my Bronze Batman the timing was right. I had an extra couple thousand laying around and thought what the hell. The other reasons why I bought it was because I knew it would never decrease in value and I always wanted one.
I think everybody would agree that you buy what you want when you want and if somebody else doesn't like it, remind them it is not their money so they don't have to worry about it.

You have all raised valid arguments.
I guess the sentimental value for owning such a piece is worth more than a couple of G's.

To each their own!

It's not even a money issue for me, I simply don't care to buy a statue that's 50% gargoyle, 45% cape, and 5% Batman head up on top.

well that's what I said in the VERY first post.
It's not that spectacular compared to statues like the Juggernaut, Silver Surfer.
Even sideshow statues - especially the doctor doom or sentinel diorama still looks much better and for MORE than Half-the-price.

I agree. One thing that really throws me off with this statue (and the Captain America bronze as well) is the blue cowl contrasting against the bronze skin. To have so much of the costume painted in it's normal colors, but then have that bare metal on the face...it just looks unappealing.

the only bronze statue that has captured my attention would be the PITT bronze statue.
But this statue is MORE rare than the batman. ONLY 20 in the entire world.
If the batman sells for over $3000, I can't imagine how much the Pitt would sell for.

I have a few bronzes, including the Batman. I treat them as my HOLY GRAIL items and I also look at them as an investment "for a rainy day". Until that rainy day comes, I will sit back and enjoy looking at and owning a few extremely rare pieces of art that not too many people can say they have even seen in person, let alone owned at one point of time.

Just the humble opinion of a closetnerd.......... :)

I wouldn`t spend $50 on that let alone thousands I never liked that and i`m a big Batman fan.Congrats to those who like and or own it but it`s not for me.

overkill

Quite possibly the worst thread ever. Makes no sense at all. Questioning what someone spends on statue. Do you think $5000 is a lot of money to someone who makes say $500,000 a year? AH forget it, foolish argument

Do you feel the same about the Marvel bronzes, because people would spend 6000 - 7500 on those? Do you think that they're worth it? Or are you just hating on the Bat? :banghead:
