Just wanted to share a couple of eBay auctions I won tonight from McHaleyArt, another of the uber-talented forum members doing great work around here! I picked up a pair of watercolor pieces (12x16) of Spider-Man and Wolverine. I love this style! It's very loose and I think the colors are incredible.

I like these so much that I'm getting him to do a couple more of these pieces in same style: I doubt anyone would be surprised that Vision and Mysterio are my choice of subjects. I can't wait to see how they come out because the four of them on the same wall is going to make for a KILLER display. :buttrock:

Congrats! These are great... I can't decide which one I like better. That Spider-Man is just stunning. Anyone that hasn't looked at Mark's gallery (http://bp.rubberslug.com/gallery/home.asp), you should check it out. Great stuff :thumbs2:

I'm not very artistic, but aren't watercolors hard to work with? To be able to get that kind of detail with them is awesome. I'd like to add some of Mark's work to my own collection.

Thanks for posting the pics rilynil. If the colors look as great in person as they do in these digitals, you must be loving it! Like you, I really dig this style. It reminds me somewhat of Sienkiwicz.

Thanks for all the nice things said guys!!! I have been a Bill Sienkiewicz fan for over 20 years. It was a thrill for me to show him my stuff and talk technique with him. For those that haven't seen this before, here'a a piece of Hellboy that I pencilled up and Bill painted over it.

Mark- The Spider-Woman turned out GREAT... I love the way you used the shadows. It really sets the mood for a Batman-type entrance. Thanks for all the time and imagination you put into it. It really paid off.

Wow, these are incredible! It is always cool to see someone do something different with Superheroes. All too often superhero artwork comes with a certain "sameness". Or everyone tries to follow the current trend, like trying to be Alex Ross.

Brilliant stuff.

I saw 300 last week and loved it. One of my two requests was the fierce leader of the Spartans, King Leonidas. Check it out:

Mark, thanks again. The list of characters I'd like to see you paint is waaay too long. I can't believe I just found out what a talent you are.

Very cool, Mark! By the way, I took the four watercolor pieces you did for me to the framing shop this week. In fact, I took a LOAD of stuff, including some original comic book art and some other signed stuff. Hopefully, I'll be able to have it all paid for within a few weeks. As soon as I get it, I'll be sure to post pics! I picked some very cool frames for your watercolor paintings. :thumbs2:

You're not kidding! I'm getting your four paintings, two large autographed lithos, two comic book original art covers framed with their corresponding comics and one original inside page with its comic page. It's all going to look AWESOME! Sad thing is that I didn't even take everything I need framed to the shop. :(

The shop cut me a deal, but it's still about a grand, total. I'm having to pay for it in thirds over the next few weeks or so. I can't wait. Getting all this will make me want to stay home more often.

McHaleyArt

It was great to meet everyone in Chicago!!!
Here are 2 of Sunday's Wizard World commissions. I actually had an hour to spare after finishing these which helped dilute my initial panic at the possibility of not finishing all my at-show commissions.

Your Batman is great.

I would like a comic book with your Batman version in it.

It would be cool if you drew Batman for DC.

I haven't done a thought out Star Wars piece in awhile. This image had been in my head for some time now and I finally got around to doing it...

Your background is wery cool in the Spider Woman piece. Very detailed.

The SW piece, I like it, although that thing you do where it fades. I don't like that.

To me when an artist does that, I always get the feeling that the piece is not done yet.

I usually draw out the figures from head to toe. I love the use of white space and up-lighting....just a personal preference. I think it's totally cool that you don't like that about it and thanks for your opinion. That's the great thing about art....everyone likes different things.

It is cool that you chose to uplight the piece that way.

Have you ever had any expirence in movie making?

There are actualy different ways to light different character's for example in movies alien character's are usualy backlighted, like E.T. Villain and bad guys get lighted from beneath. So it is very appropiate that you chose to light the piece like you did.

No movie making experience....If I had the time I would paint the same drawing in 10 different style and lighting choices. There are endless possibilities when starting a piece.
