DC comics sketch cards!!!!!

:buttrock: It's official!! I'm one of the artists who will be drawing colored sketch cards for the new DC card set DC: Legacy. I had a great time working on the Avengers card set and this new set from DC is bringing it up a notch. All the A-list characters are there as well as some awesome supporting characters. I just got my blank cards today and I can't wait to start drawing on them.

snappa, these are original drawings, full color on 2.5 x 3.5 cards. Think of it as a bonus card when someone buys a box which contains 40 packs (5 cards per pack). Only one sketch card per box.

I can understand why the $ is so high your vision is amazing!! One can really see the thought/time that goes into your work, and that translates to $$$. If I may ask the companies do not give you a few extra blank cards so you can make some extra income from the deal?

Thanks for the kind words Z. Unfortunately, most card companies won't give the artists any blank cards to do with as they please. Topps ( Star Wars, Lord of the Rings) however does give the artist 6 of their cards back to them and the artist can sell them if they want. Rittenhouse ( Complete Avenegers) doesn't follow that policy. All cards must be returned to them whether there is art on them or not. They count all the cards before they send them out to the artist. The same goes for this DC set I'm working on.

I look forward to seeing them!! The watercolors bring a different view to the characters.

The sketch cards are really strong I received a few weeks ago 2 sketch cards I commissioned using oils they are still tacky, but the card itself is still super strong not one sign of warping. I do think I will be airing them out for a while though.

Could the reason be they are worried what might be drawn on those cards since it would have their company name on it. I wonder if it already happened with another sketch card set. The contract must be thick as a phone book.

ok....we all know that we can't show you any cards yet. And with the release date now Sept. 26 who knows how soon we'll be able to. What I thought that I would show you are pages from my sketch pad. With this set (DC Legacy) there are lots and lots of characters I've never drawn before and ones that I have but really needed to re-familiarize myself with. A lot of my cards started off from warm-ups and concept sketches. I'd never really explored Captain Marvel, Batwoman and (I must admit) the a comic book version of Superman. So here are some pages pulled from the many, many, many selections I've done as concepts for cards...some of which have or might end up as the smallest watercolor paintings I've ever done.

I'll be hitting the overnight Fed-Ex place at 9 p.m on Monday! I've had to do some repeat images to keep up the pace but they are all definitely 1 of a kind and have turned out really nice!

Oh crap, they sent you the wrong pic's. You'd better talk to Kevin and let him know. It would suck if the cards you did of the characters that weren't on the official list don't get used in this set. Scarecrow and Ra's were taken off the final list as well.

I will have copies to show at Chicago and some of the concepts for cards turned out nicely enough to make me want to do some full size versions for the show as well. I'll probably buy a case myself off of the rittenhouse sight and see who I get..hopefully one of Tony's.

Rittenhouse may do the same thing they did with the Avengers set and give each artist a box.

What I ended up doing as I was painting these cards was making some of them into larger, 11"x 14" pieces on watercolor paper. Ones that I was curious enough to give them the full size treatment. I did a few more....when I get a chance to take pictures of them I'll post them.

Rittenhouse won't be showing any of the cards on their site for awhile. DC is very picky as to how the cards are shown and which characters can be shown next to one another.

Ya know.....I can't remember if he was on the list. I don't think he was because I think I would have definitely done some cards of him....and I didn't. I also haven't seen anyone else with deadman cards.
