At the request of the 80 lovers on this board, which of these hair band still rules.
Yes, it was the eighties. where men could grow long hair, get a perm ,and wear spandex. Yes, they sung about rebellion, satan worship, sex and booze, and the occasional power ballad.
Which of these bands 80's albums still rock 20 years later!

I've seen quite a few of these live. The only one that I haven't seen but would like to is VH.

None of those. The new Aerosmith album, in my opinion, was awful. Couldn't even listen to it. Since when did they go completely country? And the rest of the group on there...bleah. But that's just me. Love Van Halen, but they haven't made anything new that's worthwhile to listen to.

If the question is which band's music stands the test of time, I'd say Aerosmith, Van Halen, Def Leppard and Guns 'N Roses.

WE aren't judging on their recent material. I just want you to judge by the stuff released in the eighties!

I went GNR because they ushered in a whole new level of attitude to the LA Glam rock scene.
BUT, I only voted for them because my truly favorite 80's band wasn't available--EXTREME. I know I may get harrassed because of this but, plain and simple--NUNO Rocks! He was an inspiration then and his playing stands the test of time--the guy has chops for days. :buttrock:

For me it's a toss up between Crue and GnR.
Yorick, Extreme was awesome. It's a shame that they got screwed over by "More Than Words". The rest of that album and the one before were actually very good.

Wow!! Glad to see so much support for the Extreme guys. Did anyone here catch that VH1 Bands reunited where they tried to get them all back together? Bummer that it didn't go through. They're amazing live--I got to see them on the Pornograffiti tour w/ Saigon Kick, and I must say it was one of the best shows that I've seen, still to this day.
Nuno and Gary both have new bands that are trying to "break out" still, but they just went too "alternative" and it really seems sad--just stick to what you know, don't chase trends because they are always faster than what you can keep up with.

Def Leppard all the way. They've been my favorite band since '83 when "Pyromania" came out. I picked up "On Through The Night" and "High'N'Dry" after that I've been hooked ever since. "Hysteria" is still a staple in my CD player. I never thought of them as a "hair band" though. They we're around long before the "hair band" craze and they're around long after it. It just so happened that their most popular album hit at the height of hair metal and they got lumped in with the rest. Great live band too!
Just my two cents, but the best album they did after "Hysteria" was "Slang" in '96. A departure from their regular sound but a great album nonetheless.

The Who is my favorite all-time band and I think their music still holds up today.
I tend to listen to a lot of the "Classic Rock" stations where they will mix in a few of the Doors, Greatful Dead, the Stones and The Who ocasionally.
But I also like Steely Dan, Joe C o c ker, The Eagles, Dire Straits, George Thorogood and lots of others.
No heavy metal, thought.
And I love Motown.
Marvin G a ye is God.
"Stubborn Kind Of Fellow" is perhaps the quintessential soul song of all time.

I wish I remembered ZZ Top when you were looking for 80's hair bands. Their hair is on their chin, but it should still count!
Maybe we need another poll for the 80's - Best Arena Rock Band. I'd include:
Rush
Journey
Genesis
U2
Triumph
Asia
ZZ Top
Can you think of three more deserving?
70's poll could consider:
Who
Kinks
Rolling Stones
Rush
Yes
Ted Nugent
Led Zepplin
Genesis
Crosby Stills Nash and Young

.. for best album and album cover in the Hair Metal category.
But on the VH note.. when they came out, they were actually dubbed "Jock Rock" because of the running around on stage and DLR's backflips and such.
I remember seeing them in '78 when they opened for KISS. What a show. I am also a VH purist who thinks there is no VH w/o DLR. The Hagar years and that dude from Extreme didn't hold a candle to DLR.
On another note, I don't think Aerosmith or Guns n Roses should be in this poll because they are just plain hard rock IMO. And Def Leppard also, just barely make the list, if they should at all.
