Rocco, that looks great!. He looks really angry. And I love how the paintup gives it that metal-skin-under-cloth-shirt look. A terrific job as usual.:buttrock: Now where's Loki and Thor!? :eplus2:

Hey guys,
Thanks! I also put the pics up on our site. We are trying to get tickets to go out to LA for the convention. I want to sit at the Wizard booth and sign a few boxes for the fans (I think it would be nice to meet the people buying our work).

Rocco. I love this sculpt. I think back at reading that story arc in Astonishing X-Men, Colossus coming back and his anger. I can feel the emotion and it inspires me. I now cry out to anyone who could pick one up for me because I want it bad...
I really like the way the uniform comes off as cloth. That is incredibe.e Out of curiosity, is that Ord's blade stuck in the base?

Crom, I think that is indeed Ord's blade in the base. Excellent idea considering Ord was torturing Colossus these last few years. This bust shows the raw emotion that is Colossus. He is rage!

Yeah guys, thats Ord's blade in the base! Glad you dig the clothes, he was originally sculpted shirtless, but everybody wanted to see the costume on him, so I put a shirt on him, lol! He looked great both ways (but is only available with the costume on).
It will be available at Wizard World L.A., the weekend of March 18-20th. Hope to see some of you there!

Ciao Dr.Doom! Come Stai tutto bene?! Thanks for the great responses, everybody has been so kind!
Those 3 busts were done back in summer, I sent the finished sculpts to Randy in Aug (I think). He has quite a few things on the things to paint list, that's what I've been told! I'm just as curious to see the finished paint jobs as anybody!

Awesome work Rocco, I can't wait to add this piece to my collection if I can get my hands on it!
You have captured one of my favorite comics moments in recent history. Thank you!!!
And the way you surfaced the bust so the costume has the visual texture and pull of cloth, awesome!

I much prefer the texture of and the way the costume lays on the character here than the way it's done is so many comics. Nice!
I would personally prefer that essentially every full sized statue of every character done by anyone would have this more realistic element to a piece, rather than the more typical "naked body with a costume painted on" look.
I think this way of depicting the costume's relationship to the wearer is more challenging and difficult to do well, b/c the artist has to put more thought (until the second hand nature of doing this that comes from practice) into how a form-fitting costume would react over a muscular body during typical movements and positions. This may be one reason why this style that is so well done here has not caught on yet.
Thoughts from the artists and sculptors here on this point?
All I know is that I hope that this type of treatment catches on and becomes the norm both in the world of statue making and comic book artistry.

I think the only "problem" with moving towards this way of sculpting would be that the characters aren't actually drawn this way. Much of the reason that I like these busts and statues is that they visually reproduce the characters as faithfully as possible from the original source. If the sculpters were to start making the pieces more "realisitc", they (IMO) would lose some of their quality. Can you imagine wanting a sculpture of a John Romita Spiderman, but getting Alex Ross's baggy costumed version instead simply to add realism? I think that would be a piece I would pass on.

Oh, I see. I'll bet what I meant to say with my post was a bit unclear. What I mean to say is that I want the comic book ART to be done this way. I for one don't care at all about source material. I have never, nor will I ever, want a statue in the vein of "artist X". I couldn't even name many artists/pencillers/inkers anyway, so it's just not my thing. The little I know centers around me thinking Kelly Jones' Batman was gosh-awful and that McFarlane did a very good Spider-man (I much prefer his style of drawing the eyes of his costume to Romita, etc.). I just want a very solid depiction of the character, period.
The more accurate costume-over-muscular body type look that I prefer is pictured in this bust. It isn't at all baggy to me. Pajamas are baggy (bad look, right? I agree!), but Colossus' costume here is form fitting but one can tell he's got clothes on b/c their relationship to his build is realistically depicted.
I like Ross' art, but I do like seeing a more muscular body under a realistic-looking costume than he sometimes depicts. So for me, Ross' style of depicting "costume-over-body" is great, but sometimes the body underneath, IMO, could do w/ a bit of tweaking.
