Russian memorial statue

[Endless Wake]

This memorial for Russian soldiers has been the cause of alot of riots reported in the news lately due to its removal. Politics aside, this is a beautiful sculpt.

Why was it removed?

Essentially the Estonian Government is looking to distance itself from the Old Soviet Union and Russia and closer to the EU and Nato. Part of that process is to remove any Russian memorials from public areas to less public areas like the cemetary. 1/3rd of Estonians are ethnic Russians and they are claiming that the government in Estonia is removing not only statues but also Russian speaking schools. Its all politics and best kept off the boards.

That truly is a beautiful sculpt!! It looks really modern when was it unveiled?

I don't know why, but the way he is holding the helmet then the jacket the way it is draped he looks a little like Magneto.
