I wouldn't mind that Iron Man since it lights up.

But I would guess that it will sell for $3,000 - $4,000

That Balrog would probably for $5,000

Yep, noticed the Wolverine. They are offering an Pre Production sample in the auction as well.

$2-3k for CaveTroll
$2k - RingWraith

I wished there was a Hulk Statue :bawling: Good Luck to everyone and Diane's children.

The news letter did say there would be a couple of announcements at the comic con so there could be a hulk after all.

I may try for the Ironman.... but at 10k I would have to think about it very hard (and probably chicken out).

I think $5000+ will make this bad boy yours. You have to remember that a lot of people will feel better about spending their hard earned cash because it's for charity. They will feel less selfish because they are giving back a little.

Does "departed" mean she passed away or left the company?

only the amount not related to what you receive is tax deductable - since these pieces will be worth quite a bit, most likely is not tax deductable.

If, for example, you bid $40k on an empty box worth $1, then $39,999 would be tax deductible.

Could you tell the IRS it's worth a "little more" than the IM Exclusive retail price? Then deduct the difference?

While that is true, how do you value an item with an ES of 2? I'd point the IRS to the SS website where Ironman is shown with a $250 retail.

$5k (estimated)-$250= $4,750 deductible...

Doing this would cause a red flag and most likely cause an audit. You better have all the info and you better be clean on the last few years of your return also.

Read the description :)

This auction is for a one-of-a-kind treasure, a pre-production sample of the Legendary Scale Wolverine Bust. In the development process, the Sideshow Development team receives samples for approval purposes. These samples are reviewed by the team, and they may request changes to the paint, casting, or engineering. This Wolverine Sample was very well received by the team, especially the engineering for the attachment of the 'mask' hanging 'loose' on his back. Now you have the rare opportunity to get your hands on the Wolverine Legendary Scale Bust before anyone else! This bust will include a hand-cut foam for protection.

The Wolverine Legendary Scale Bust Pre-Production Sample is unique and one-of-a-kind, and will be sent to you as-is. There may be small imperfections, but that is part of the charm of owning this unique collectible. This item will not include any printed box or standardized packaging materials (like our finished products do), but it will be packed extremely carefully by our expert development & shipping staff, using great care.

This item will include a Certificate-of-Authenticity (COA) signed by Tom Gilliland, Creative Director.

I think the threat of 'a few imperfections' might just put the brakes on a runaway selling price for the Iron Man comiquette. In Sideshow language, 'imperfections' can equate to some pretty serious flaws. It'll probably go over 5k before too long though.

What burns me is that they issued over 1000 editions of this statue with the wrong-colored gloves, and the only way to get a correctly painted one is to bid on a prototype at auction!

Good luck to board members who bid. :thumbs2: I won't be competing.

But Robert Downey Jr. owns the only other one in existence! Still, if I pay $18,000 for anything, it better have four wheels and a kicka$$ stereo system.

But owning one of the only two Iron Man statues in existence is incredibly cool. :buttrock:

Is this happening as part of the auction?

Why would anyone pay 18k for that? No offense but wow there are much better things to spend your money on. Charity auctions are always less about the auction and more about the charity.

At that price, it likely was not simply about owning a statue.

What the winning bidder really bought was a decent shot at a good future for three kids who would probably much rather have their mother back... the statue was more like a gift for doing such.

That Iron Man is incredibly sweet. And to think that Robert Downey Jr. is the only other person on the planet with one! Wow!

As if he gives a fig about it. He's probably already handed it off to a nephew or friends kid :D :D

it's an incredibly bad investment at that price. Whoever is buying it is extremely foolish.

Or not interested in it as an investment....

I doubt someone buying this statue for 18k even thought about reselling....

The director was probably jealous he wasn't given one also on the first day of shooting...so of course he had to get the other one.

Clearly, someone who drops $18,000 on a SideShow statue isn't really all that concerned with the hit to their wallet.

Someone like that likely has real investments.

Anyway, like I said before, in an auction like this, it's about the charity, not the item up for bid.

first, how rich they are aside, if they had any financial sense or savvy at all they wouldn't just be throwing their $$ at something like this willy nilly. They're spending like Steve Martin from The Jerk. And like his character, they won't hang onto their cash in the long term. People who have $$ due to wise investing don't blow it on this sort of crazy impulse buy. Collectibles and hobbies, sure, but there are items of history, signifigance, and value, and then there's the Iron Man prototype

As to the charity point...there are MUCH better and worthier charities if that is someone's motivation.

someone made a good point in another thread, that the individual pieces would need to be painted pre-assembly.

This is a very silly, somewhat moot, and very hypothetical point to debate.

You can't put how wealthy the person may be aside, because that's a major factor.

Clearly they weren't making an investment by buying the statue at $18,000; they did it because they wanted to. And part of having that kind of money means you can essentially do just that, without having to ponder the financial ramifications.

Also, who's to say that this cause is any better, or any worse than any other, in the realm of charity auctions? That's an extremely relative point of view.

Anyway, like I said, the point's fairly moot, because we have no idea what the winner's finances are like, nor what their motivation for bidding so high was.

True. $18K was probably just pocket change. I'm envy the winner of the statue. If I had the money, I would tried and got it also.

Everyone's talking like it's bought and paid for. Until I see positive feedback posted I'll remain only cautiously optimistic for the outcome of this transaction. I don't want to bust anyone's (friends) chops, but this IS a buyer with a 4 week old identity and 9 feedback (all of which hit around the $15 or less mark for CD's & DVD's). I've been burned for much less by people with MUCH better profiles than that! For the sake of the charity auction I sure hope it pans out. :thumbs2:

No, it isn't. The fund is not a 501(c)(3) organization, because 501(c)(3) can't be established to benefit an individual(s). Doesn't mean the cause is not a charity, only means it is not tax-deductible.

So if the winner has money to give to charity like that, I am sure he/she made sure of the status first.

I didn't know it either till I took a job as a director of a non-profit. I'm begging rich guys for money all the time, so I gots to edumacate them on the benefits of parting with their "hard earned" and/or "ill-gotten" cash.

All right, I just lost the Scarface Bust. Who was warring with me as Bidder #10? I think I am bidder #11.

I was willing to pay double the MSRP of the original, but I just couldn't go over $900. :banghead:
