I went with $8.5k. But the only thing I fear with these auctions is that they`ll attract alot of attention from fake bidders who are going to bid ridiculous amounts, or at least artificially push the price up.

This isn't a bronze statue, folks... It's not exactly a classic pose either. Moreover, there are other editons of this piece available as well so it's not a true one of a kind. Even under the most ideal of conditions, I'd still be surprised to see this go over 6k and that's already an insane price.

JMO

P.S. Then again, I've seen people willing to pay 1k for the chrome surfer bust so what do I know... lol

P.P.S. For 10k, I could get several amazing class Kirby pages. I'd totally prefer that.

You're right, hence their motive behind mentioning it.
However, at the end of the day, this is a variant and not a true one (or two) of a kind.
The hubbub would be far crazier if no other edition of this piece existed.

The most exciting part for me is where they felt the need to specify "The Iron Man Comiquette will never be offered for sale with the red/gold color scheme and working lights...".

Now, I may be reading too much into this but doesn't this suggest that other Iron Man statues with different color schemes and lighting are planned for the future?

BTW its at $6100.

Me? I'm going to send cheap booze, some crack, and (2) hookers over to Downey's pad. Then sneak in 8 hours later and steal the other one.

Cost? What...like $400-500....tops.

My plan now. Don't steal it.

Well the auction has staled out at $7,700 since the about the start of SDCC.

Now is this because those who would be bidding on this piece are busy with the convention or the announcement of the Stealth has taken the steam out of the desire for the unique comiquette?

I thought it would have been really good of Sideshow to include a low numbered Stealth along with the Comiquette for the winner. In fact, I asked them about if this was a possibility.

This was their response.

listed in the eBay auction details.

Understandable, but IMO a mistake. I really believe that including a Stealth would generate renewed interest in this auction. For the price of a Stealth, I'm sure the auction would bring in an extra $1K.

And I quote myself

read this

This auction is for a real treasure, one of only two ever made, a prototype of the Iron Man Comiquette featuring working lights built into the armor. Excited about the upcoming Iron Man movie, the development team at Sideshow returned to the previously released Iron Man Comiquette to develop a new edition of the statue, with working lights and a new paint scheme. The working lights were developed before the new paint was ready, and two pieces were produced with the traditional red/gold armor. One of the light-up statues was given to Robert Downey Jr. to celebrate the first day of filming on Iron Man, and the other was reserved for this auction. The Iron Man Comiquette will never be offered for sale with the red/gold color scheme and working lights - this is your opportunity to own a true holy grail.

This means there must be a new edition of this statue with working lights and a new paint scheme going to be released.

they only did these because the new paint wasnt ready.......whatever that means

It also means that whomever wins this auction will pay a ****load of money only to (maybe)find out in the end that the only difference between theirs and the newly released one would be the paint.

Yes thank you ......thank you......there you have it

At the beginning of the auction, I estimated that it would end at $10,000... and it was on track to, up until the last 30 minutes, or so.

My hypothesis is that either bidder 26 and 22 were just having their jerkass moment of anonymous internet fun (in which case, the statue'll default to the last legitimate bid, or be re-auctioned), or someone extremely wealthy got wind of the auction at the last minute and decided to opt into the action.

Maybe Robert Downey Jr. really, really didn't like the idea of someone else having the duplicate statue? :tounge:

In any case, I have to admit, I'm a little curious as to who dropped what is likely twice as much as the statue was likely worth on that auction.

Any way you look at it though, it was an excellent development for the fundraiser's bottom line.

You must have inexpensive tastes in cars. Or... really good taste in motorcycles?

I've got one of the SS exclusive versions of the "regular" comiquette, so I suspect it won't be very much different from that, but I'm a bit curious as to how the light up parts look when unlit.
