Gotta agree with the majority here nothing impresses me about this piece. It might have something to do with the picture but the clothing doesn't seem to fit right, he has an eraser head and the pose is pretty meh. Gandalf the Grey would have been such a superior choice. Oh well as of right now this is an easy pass. :(

Go to the turn-around and look at Glamdring's (his sword) handle angle vs the scabbard. Yikes! Bent it is. Hope at least that detail gets fixed before release.

Judging by some of the photos I`ve seen, I think the likness is pretty good. Still not conviced on the pose though. I think they were trying to depict him in the battle of the white city.

I agree that it is far from their better to best PF's, but even so, it is very nice from an up close and personal observation! The clothes are the highlight of the PF as is the size! I agree, the hair and beard could be sculpted or painted better! It is not pure white like it should be! But it definitely is much better than my initial expectations!

Ugh...let's hope not! How hard is it to paint two pupils/irises that are looking in the same direction?!? Let alone if it's what you get paid to do.

1) Apply eyeball paint
2) Take a couple steps back and look at the piece
3) Does the statue appear cross-eyed? Dumbstruck? Psychotic?
a) If yes, repaint eyeball(s).
b) If not, congrats, give yourself a pat on the back, and move on to next paint app.

I think people are forgetting the old days when talking about sell out times. $300 is not a small amount to plop down on an item like this. Back in the day even exclusive PF's would stay up on the site for weeks at a time. Not everything is an instant sell out and I am glad about that.


Marvel people are just a bunch of freaks sometimes and this explains the SIM situation as well as flippers.

Don't forget about Lurtz. IMO he is THE best PF out there, opinions may vary of course. Frodo isn't bad either. I was surprised how good he looked in person but I'm not feeling that Gandalf. I canceled mine a while ago and it will be the first LOTR PF pass for me. Hoping we get a Gandalf the Grey at some point.

Same here - The LSB sculpt was nice, no reason why they couldn't pull off a PF as well.

So my exclusive just arrived, but I don't dare take any pics now --- the lighting wouldn't be good at all.

Here are some random thoughts:

1) The skin tones aren't too dark really, though it is funny when you connect the alternate hands to their MUCH lighter arms. Nice touch, the right arm (sword arm) is held on by a magnet. The only area where he might be a touch too dark is in the forehead, but I don't think I will find myself dwelling on it much.

2) The costuming is amazing, honestly, downright amazing! While the drape isn't quite what I want, I think with some time I can get the waist section to lay a bit more naturally. Down to the eyelits in the wrist sleeves, there is no lack of attention here. The cape is big, and it makes a nice drape down around the base.

3) The pose actually makes sense, especially when viewed in profile. He is merely standing on his back foot; almost as if he were surveying the fray, anticipating his next move. From the front, I don't think it will bother many people either, this is a non-issue for me anyway.

4) WHY oh WHY do they keep using that flakey foam ... me s it! I got a calendar with mine; and it is incorporated into the foam, so it would appear that Sideshow will be using this promotion throughout the beginning of the year at least.

Aside from the hilt issue I have mentioned, the head on his staff is too large, that is a somewhat glaring problem.

On the whole, I am keeping it - I wasn't sure, and tried to remain objective; but this really is a keeper.

The details look forced its a large scale figure no need to do that .the wrinkles in the forhead way to deep ,the bags under the eyeys way to big.

SS has another chance to do a spot on gandalf likeness if they ever release a Greyham.
Let's Bergholtz and/or Miller do the face-sculpting and there will be a very good chance we will have another killer PF!!!:thumbs2:

I think there is 'some' likeness ,but not good enough to have it in my collection.
The beard & moustache,the too long head,the too wide mouth are killing it for me.:(

I have a major love/hate opinion of this PF. I've canceled and re-ordered a number of times. I placed a wait list reservation last week, then cancelled Friday when it converted to an order.

I'll wait for a deal somewhere. Push comes to shove, if I have to have it, I can always hunt down a no-EX version. With the lukewarm response though, I'm sure we'll be seeing some deals. If I could score Gandalf and Aragorn for dirt cheap, that would be awesome. I waited on Frodo and got him for a little above $100.

I agree with everyone here though. The LOTR PFs just don't do the movies justice. Lurtz was the king so far. Hopefully, they stick to creatures since they seem to turn out better.

As far as this Gandalf goes I think it looks decent but not good enough to warrant being in my collection. Especially not with the amount of other product coming out thats tying up my funds. I'll wait for a Gandalf the Grey.

I agree, still not a big fan of the head/beard sculpt. While not perfect, I think the overall look of this piece is pretty good - the clothing looks top notch. With the low ES I have a feeling that some will be kicking themselves down the road.

After Gandalf being released,she said that there were 2 new PF's in progress,a male and a female character.So,they did already come up with Aragorn....

I just received my Gandalf EX PF earlier today and thought I would revive this thread and post my opinion and some pics. I love this piece, sure the likeness isn't 100% accurate, but it's Gandalf, theres no denying that.
I don't really see any problem with the head being too long. The detail on the outfit is just astounding, amazing that they were able to accomplish that feat. Now granted this is my first Sideshow PF so I might be gushing here, but I can't really fault this statue, it's severely underappreciated in my honest opinion. So if there are still people out there who are on the fence about this, my humble opinion is yes it is worth it. With an ES of 500 and the EX available as a second chance on Sideshow, I couldn't take the chance of missing out on this. Enjoy the pics and if anyone wants a specific part or view of the statue photographed let me know and I'll be happy to oblige. Thanks for viewing guys. Oh and I got #20 of 500, so that was pretty cool.
