That looks like that breed of dog that always enters those "World's Ugliest Dog" contests. They have scattered bits of hair on them and those long tongues that stick out all the time.

The legend of the chupacabra was featured in an X-Files episode, if I remember correctly. Mulder and Scully investigated deaths in a Mexican village. But I don't think it was a dog-like creature in that show.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure "chupacabra" was what the people called it.

The chupacabra is like a central american bigfoot. They say it is not of this world. I belive the name means goatsucker in spainish. I used to work with guy from Mexico who said he seen one. He said it look a little like a kangaroo but with massive legs. Also it could move very fast like 80mph. I could not keep the smile off my face when he was telling me, cuz he was dead serious.

Those dogs are named Mexican Hairless dog.

It's a kind of recessive gene variation.
Homozygote can't even survive through the embryo stage. Only heterozygote can survive but will feature horrifing appearance and generally shorter life span.
