These have been sent back for some significant corrections, but I thought you guys might want to see them.

The blatant discrepancies from the reference will be fixed, but you can get an idea of what he will look like from these.

So what's the fate of this statue and the Surfer? Awesome paint job by the way.

Now that I've gotten past that overwhelming sense of awe at seeing these pics and picked my jaw up off the floor... I must say that this is an INCREDIBLE sculpt! The detail... the paints... all I can saw is WOW. Two thumbs WAAAAAY up! :thumbs2:

I hope the concept hasn't been trimmed down to just the Thunder God. I know the Surfer is a much trickier piece to figure out (having him in flight), but the initial pics we've seen have made this diorama one of the most anticipated releases I can think of.

Comicbkguy - Thanks for posting these!

OMG!!! What are the "blatant discrepencies"? The brown leather vs. silver wrapping around the hammer shaft (on the SS #4 cover the straps are silver rather than brown)? Not sure the face looks as angry as the SS #4 cover. Other than that, it looks perfect! What an amazing piece!

Where's the Surfer? How will the diorama be put together? When does it go on sale? What will it be priced? How can I buy it?

These questions MUST be answered!!!!

(Thanks for posting these pics, by the way).

Awsome piece but I agree that the face expression is just a bit off.

Wow! This is one nizzze piece. Hopefully it will be in scale with Bowen's, but it looks a little bigger (more like the Moore Wolverine). Regardless, this one has to be released, so I can buy it.

This is awesome. Thanks for the pix comicbkguy. I finally bought the Wolverine in the Sewer statue from Moore's brother this past week on eBay and it arrived today. As usual, it was an outstanding sculpt. This one looks great and I hope we get to see it soon...

It looks incredible except the helmet wings look way to big. Did Buscema draw them that big? Great sculpt and paint job though!

Yes, John Buscema did draw them that big. My son had the same thought but then I showed him the comic cover and he agreed they were the right size.

Here's a picture of both for comparison:

After seeing these pics and looking at the Bowen Thor Full Size, I can only say that this is a far superior sculpt.

As I had mentioned in an earlier thread on the Bowen side of the Forum...under the infamous Pizza and Toilet paper thread that Randy should do whatever needed to produce this.

The idea that the monetary negotiation is going to stop Bowen from being represented by Moore is ridiculas and a poor business decision.

I think that any of us out here would gladly pay $225-$275 retail to see this diorama come to light under the Bowen title. That price is not including the discount offered by each supplier.

I mean, they are asking for $175 for Night Crawler and this is by far beyond that in comparison when the Surfer is added to it.

This is a tremendous sculpt and someone needs to bring Clay into the fold for doing Marvel statues because he is the premier sculptor on the scene today.

I am not taking anything away from other sculptors, but Moore's work almost takes your breath away when you see it.

This is a truly outstanding sculpt.

Wow- I never noticed how big his helmet wings were. It's much more subtle on the cover and that's the first thing I noticed when I saw the statue.

Lots of great stuff out there right now but this one is King Of The Hill. Don't care if it is a kit, prepaint or if the price is double. Build it and we will buy.

Here are the answers to your questions (the ones I know anyway)

It hasn't been picked up by anyone. Doesn't mean it won't be, just hasn't been yet

The Surfer is done and molded. I haven't done anything with the castings yet though. Other priorities. I will post pics as soon as I have something. I don't have the base or the board yet so I don't know how those issues have been dealt with.

The discrepancies. Okay I overstated that a bit, but you have to understand I am used to dealing with hypercritical fans of a certain TV show so I am used to everthing being picked apart. But you guys were really cool about it. What show? Think about it shouldn't be too hard to puzzle out. The hammer will be redone. It is silver for some reason, when it should be grey. The wraps on the handle will also be redone. The boots and belt are going to be redone yellow instead of metallic gold. One thing you guys can post an opinion on is the color of the wings. Internally there is a debate as to whether they should be white or silver. What do you guys think?

And one last thing. Paul Moore is the painter and as usual he did a great job. Believe he also took those pics. Just wanted to make sure he got credit.

Anything I didn't comment about I don't know about.

Thanks and glad you guys like it.

Absolutely stunning.

Will it come on a base to mate up with the Silver Surfer?

madjazz
02-03-2005, 09:16 AM
The way you have the wings now is perfect. I can't wait to see how this finally comes together.

Would that show be BtVS?

I vote for silver wings over plain white. However, if they could be mostly white with silver hightlights, I think that would be best.

I know this may have changed but when i talked to Clay in Pittsburg(April) he said that things just weren't working out with BD and that there were no plans to have it produced. I of course pleaded with him to have the piece made.
