I know, that's why I wanted help. Should I include all the sequels, some sequels, no sequels. Remakes or no remakes. Should I include the classics like Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman. This list could get much longer.

Isn't Invasion of the Body Snatchers more Sci-Fi?

Friday the 13th had about 8 sequels including Jason X.

I didn't think anything after the first Howling was worth mentioning. Wasn't one of the sequels about Marsupials?

It's a classic, how could I forget?

This list is really long so I'm probably going to eliminate the sequels and maybe the remakes.

I don't think the list should be every horror movie made. I'm not sure what a reasonable number is, but an elimination game shouldn't take more than a couple of months to play, IMO.

Yes I'm going to hold off.

I'm still honing the list, I want everyone to play so I'm keeping more of the obscure titles off the list. These 3 I never heard of. I was tempted to add "I spit on your grave" and "Children Shouldn't play with dead things". Would the Blob and The Thing be considered horror or sci-fi?

Thanks, making this list was harder than I thought. I've been adding and deleting titles as it got bigger since last week. I'm still going to work on it more and then I'll post it once the other eliminations are gone.

Next time you're in Jersey or I'm in Texas you're on.:thumbs2:

I would say that remakes and sequels generally shouldn't included (if nothing else to keep the list down), and I think that including the Universal films is a good idea as they were so influential. Include Bride of Frankenstein though. :thumbs2:

Would the Blob and The Thing be considered horror or sci-fi?

I'd say horror, although the John Carpenter Thing is a remake. :thumbs2:

Thinking about similar films, what about Alien?

OK, to keep the list down I'll leave off direct sequels, prequels, and remakes. I'm going to leave off films that were made in the 50's and back to be used for a classic horror/sci-fi elimination game later on, but I will include some remakes of those classics like The Blob and The Thing.

bat_collector
09-21-2007, 11:38 AM
not all of them though!

I mean how can you not have H20, Friday the 13th part 2, Nightmare on elm street part 3 or new nightmare???? Or dawn and day of the dead???

I wouldn't leave out some of the Vincent Price films:
Last Man on Earth
Pit and the Pendulum
House of Usher
House of Wax
House on Haunted Hill
(don't know if any of these are made in the '50s)

Some Fulci Zombie classics:
Zombi (usually referred to as Zombi 2 as a quasi-sequel to "Dawn of the Dead)
Seven Doors of Death
House by the Cemetery
Black Cat
City of the Living Dead

Some others:
Suspiria
Deep Red
Cat o' Nine Tails
Alien (while it is "sci-fi" it's not necessicarly about the Alien itself, more about the isolation and claustrophobia).
Manhunter
Battle Royale
Tenebre
Seven
May
Cube (the best part of Resident Evil was taken from Cube)
The Devil's Backbone (not sure if it's "horror" by most definitions, but very atmospheric)
A Tale of Two Sisters
Toolbox Murders
The Serpent and the Rainbow
Village of the Damned
The Ugly
Tales From the Crypt (the movie from the '70s)
Cannibal Holocaust (not for some people)
The Crazies
Martin
Puppet Master movies?
Fallen
In the Mouth of Madness
Last House on the Left
Jaws
Re-Animator
Shocker

Also, with "The Ring" and "The Grudge", are you talking American or Japanese version?

I cannot believe you left Audition off this list. That was a sick flick. Ack.

Or are you avoiding Japanese horror for the time being?

I agree on both counts, but some people consider Alien more Sci-Fi than horror (and I suppose the argument can be made). For me, it's all about the atmosphere, the claustrophobia, and fear of the unknown.

All great ideas but I have to keep this list down. There's going to be a sequel to my Horror Elimination when it's done, so I'm purposely leaving out certain films this time around. As you can see the list so far is very long.

For me, it's all about the atmosphere, the claustrophobia, and fear of the unknown.take in to account the atmosphere, the chestburster, and the fact that you hardly ever see the full grown alien right until the end. The way that it picks off it's victims one by one without even being seen is classic.

This could have been located anywhere - on a ship at sea, where they found the alien underwater. the fact theat it was in space adds a touch of sci-fi, but to me, alien is my favourite horror film, and when I see lists of best horror films, the only one that beats it, is the exorcist
