I think I will pass on this one.

I have the Bowen bust, but as far as Hard Hero goes, for me will be the Red DD and hopefully the Yellow DD (Both upside down versions), and the Red Angel statue, and hoefully the Blue one.

Cheers to all that will be getting the Gladiator.

There is no one stopping people talking about HH here. You just don't have a dedicated section as before but neither do DF or Reel Art Studios.

Anyone can look up past posts and comment even though its old news. I just wish HH would put more stuff so I can have something to talk about. Of course being in the basement like an unwanted step child dosen't help either.

Nah Rob Pots hinted that this piece will be about 500 or so units. I think he is going in the direction of smaller units in the foreseable future. I wonder if this will be a trend with other manufactures as well?

I would think so given the increase in competing firms making statues.

It says right on the web site 500 - 600 edition size. Rob also stated in a thread several months ago that HH will be lowering editions sizes on future statues.

I don't think Rob is making a lower edition size because of competing companies but rather thats the trend the market is going in. Sideshow has gone into this direction by not producing a lot of statues. Most of their pieces sell out very quickly and usally go up in value. It seems characters like Gladiator a production run of 500-600 will be the norm. Glads is a supporting character and does not garner the attention a Spider Man or Wolverine will get. I see a run of 1000 for Spider Man level characters while Glads and others will only be 500 or so. I see pro's and cons as follows:

PRO'S
1.) Companies will more likely produce your favs because they have less to loose with a smaller runs and less stuff sitting around on shelves waiting to sell.

2.) Your favorite piece will likely go up in value because of the scarceness of the run.

Con's
1.) If you don't order early you will be left out. (Sideshow Stealth Iron Man anyone?)

2.) Manufacture not making as much as they would like. Although I'm not sure at what point a company stops making money due to production sizes.

Smaller runs may mean higher cost per item than with larger volumn runs. (you loose that quanity discount the consumers would normally get.)

You can put those assumptions to rest now Squider. The way HH goes now is DD getting ready to be shipped, Angel is on the water, and Gladiator is not too far behind, with possibly (POSSIBLY) another major hero before the end of the year! Get ready, for DD will be in your hands and in front of your eyes in a couple of weeks. Yee Haw! Can't wait!

Ah... I remember this booth at SDCC. They also had both Iron Man's on display towards the right (not pictured).

I wasn't into Hard Hero before SDCC. But after seeing these statues at this booth at SDCC, I've became a Hard Hero completionist.

Yeah, after I posted that I went and checked their site. Since CS doesn't carry HH anymore, I've been ordering thru my LCS thru Diamond, which is cool because at least I still give them some business. If the edition was real low (say 250) I wouldn't count on Diamond. Still don't know if I will for this one. Only HH I still don't have is Herc.

Mak and LS, no argument here. I think Herc is a great sculpt. I actually consider it HH's first "curveball" so to speak. Surprised the hell out of me, never saw it coming. Need Herc to have them all, so I'll definitely end up getting it. LS, the HH Iron Fist is still my favorite and one of my favorite statues from ANY company. Are you kidding me? The way Seth sculpts and the unusual poses that they can produce is anything but less than amazing. Look at Daredevil, his sculpt is upside down and on one hand while Angel is suspended in the air between 2 bases. I'm sure a interesting flying pose could have been done.

boy am I disappointed!! I seen the prototype for Gladiator at my LCS. nice statue. don't care too much for the eyebrows though. you know how everyone says that Seth likes large hands, well you
can see here. totally not in proportion. his hands is so wide. it looks like his hands are around his hips not
ON his hips. of all his large hands, this is the worst.

Just like the statue David sculpted by Michaelangelo? Big hands on sculptures have been used throughout the course of history to display power. That was just to explain many sculptors use that technique when sculpting. But to get to your point, the hands are not too big, and they don't engulf his whole hip. His thumbs are pressing on his kidney area, while his palm rests on the hip bone with his fingers extended. If you want to do geometry, his thumb, finger, and palm placement form a 90 degree angle. From the impression of the pictures you see, I can see how you might get that reference, but after seeing it first hand, it does not. It seems like you are thinking his palm and thumb wrap around to his back forming an almost 180 degree angle; while in fact, the palm is placed more towards the front of the pelvis hip bone area.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you are mistaken. I think his hands are in excellent proportion. Besides, Gladiator is no small dude.

I appreciate your opinion on this heirtoasguard and since I haven't seen the sculpt in person like you and loricstone have, I can only comment based on the pictures that I have seen. In my opinion, this is Seth's interpretation of Gladiator, and I'm sure Rob's interpretation has had something to do with that as well. I am ecstatic that they have chosen to do a statue of one of my all time favorite characters, and I totally respect their interpretation. I will of course be getting this statue and any others that by some miracle see the light of day. I personally enjoy seeing different interpretations by different artists and I'm sorry that you didn't like this one, but I believe the majority disagrees with you so far. My favorite rendition of Gladiator is the Bryne version but with more bulk to his musculature. Byrne drew him a little more handsome, but a bit too slender as well IMO. So, what we have here is a very cool rendition of an underappreciated character that is being brought to us very appreciative Gladiator fans!!!!:buttrock: :buttrock: Thank you Rob and Seth for producing this sculpt...it is going to be an AWESOME addition to my collection and to many other collections as well!:thumbs2:

Sorry that you don't like this piece mainly due to the hands being too large for you. I assume that Hulk's hands are too large for you as well seeing how most these characters are larger than life and the average person is rather small to them.

If it makes you feel better I think the hands on Bowen's latest Thor are a little too small for a guy of his size. He looks like he can barley get his hands around the handle of Mjolnir. For a person who's trademark is carrying a big a$$ hammer I think the hands have to be up to the task. Nevertheless it didn't stop me from buying the sculpt. Thanos is another example of the proportion not being right. Thanos' hands are very large but his feet are smaller in relation to his hands still a good sculpt.

Each artist has a slightly different take on how someone should look and you see this in the various artist renditions. Either you like Seth's style or you don't and I love his interpretation of Glads. Typically what I've seen from collectors are 4 basic camps:

1.) Those who are drawn in by a damn good sculpt but are not real fans of the character.

2.) Those who like the character and will buy it no matter what it looks like.

3.) Those who have to have both conditions met by liking the character and the sculpt.

4.) Flippers (nuff said about this group).

I fall under #1 & #2 BTW.

2.) Those who like the character and will buy it no matter what it looks like.

3.) Those who have to have both conditions met by liking the character and the sculpt.

4.) Flippers (nuff said about this group).

I fall under #1 & #2 BTW.

Same here...

Makkari, I know that Seth likes large hands. as I stated before, in all the HH statues Glad's hands are the worst. IMO it's the most noticable. Hulk's, Iron Fist and even Hawkeye's (I've seen people complain about his) are large but it just didn't bother me as much as Glad's hands. and I do intend to buy Gladiator just as I bought the rest. BTW I fall under #1 and #2. the difference is that I can talk bad about a statue but still intend to buy it.

I consider you a rational person. Even though I am a die hard HH fan, I can always critique something about the sculpt. I have yet to see a perfect statue, but a little problem here or there does not dissuade me from buying a quality statue or anything else for that matter.

that's nice to know Loric. but in none of my posts that I have done says nothing about not buying it.
I don't think there will ever be a "perfect" statue.
and while I think that no one is in your league of being a die hard fan of HH, I do consider myself a
HH fan. but I am very dissapointed with Glad's hands,
being IMO I think his is most noticable.

I know. :) That's why I said what I said. I was actually trying to complement you. Maybe how I worded it came out awkward.

Secondly, I don't know about me being the biggest HH fan out there! There are some people that have all the statues from HH, exclusives, regular and otherwise. I didn't care for the X-Men Animated line, and was very upset with the stopping of the TF line. HH is not perfect by any means, but I feel they do care about the hobby and are trying to get better with each new sculpt.

I agree that each new sculpt is getting better and better. BTW I hated the Xmen animated line as well and not because the sculpts were no good but I hated the TV series.

The sculpts look clean and good but I really hated the cartoon and refuse to buy anything related to it. I did like the Transformer line.

Yeah, he was cool, but I really wanted to see them bring the Juggernaut against him in those last episodes since they threw everyone elso who had ever showed up on that series against Apoc, but no Juggernaut... I thought that was a mistake. Oh, and no Gladiator..that was a mistake as well!!!:)
