DirecTV New HD Channels

FYI for those who subscribe to DirecTV...

DirecTV Light's Up 21 New HD Channels!
After a one week delay the first batch of new HD channels have been officially launched by DirecTV!

The new channels are as follows:

A&E HD, Animal Planet HD, Big Ten Network HD, CNN HD, Discovery Channel HD, History Channel HD, NFL Network HD, Sho Too HD, Showtime West HD, Smithsonian Channel HD, Starz Comedy HD, Starz Edge HD, Starz HD, Starz Kids and Family HD, TBS HD, The Movie Channel HD, Science Channel HD, The Weather Channel HD, TLC HD, Versus HD / Golf HD

Looks like they'll have 18 more channels up by the end of October and several more by the end of the year. Woo hoo!!!:thumbs2:

Yeah, I just noticed this morning that the extra channels had been added. The one I'm looking forward to is Sci-Fi HD, which will mean that I'll get to see Doctor Who in High-Def!

And, bonus, now all my premium movie channels are in HD, so I'm happy. Now I can check stuff out on cable and feel like I'm seeing the way it'd look on disc. :thumbs2:

I think SciFi is coming next month. I'm just happy that more HD is FINALLY begining to show up. It kinda sucks to have an expensive HDTV and only be able to watch a few Hi-Def channels. Even though most of the current programming on these newly upgraded channels will be up-converted SD, it is a huge move in the right direction.:thumbs2:

You should be able to do that easily. Hit menu, then instead of choosing the show all channels option, the bottom one should be HD channels.

Hmmmm, I wonder if Comcast will jump on this, because I don't seem to have as many HD channels. I don't have any premium channels because I don't watch enough TV, but they should offer more regular HD channels, I mean sh!t, I'm paying a lot of money to have HD, so hook it up you bastards!

What I find funny is DTV trying to charge $5 for 5 extra HD channels. None of those 5 channels make me want to shell out $5 extra. But aside from this new extra package I love DTV. USA HD is great. Even though wrestling sucks now RAW looks awesome in HD.

I'm mixed on this; while it's nice to have a ton of HD channels, the more channels they cram down the same pipe the lower the quality of each channel. That's what lead to DirecTV being referred to as having "HD Lite" and the class-action lawsuit against the company.

It's a trade-off, but sometimes you can't everything without giving something up.
