I'm not a huge horror fan, but The Shining is probably my favourite from the genre.

Seven as well, if you count that as a horror, given a lot of what happens is quite horrible......

I'll have to think about a top ten, but the big ones for me are the Scream Trilogy, Saw, Omen, Hallowe'en and Final Destination.

Dam, I forgot about

The Exorcist and the The Amytiville Horror. Both of those shows were the only ones that creeped me out as a kid.

The Shining is also fantastic.

the line between horror and crime/thriller is very blurred now. hack/slash films to me are not horror

Can't argue with that with films like Seven, Manhunter, Silence of the Lambs and Zodiac.

Hack/slash films (as well as torture porn) have no appeal for me.

EDI is my favorite of the 2. It's scarier, punches harder. EDIII stands alone.

I enjoyed the second one and the special effects were definitely more advanced. But, storywise, I remember thinking it seemed like a horror movie on LSD, and that turned me off somewhat. Was there a sustained plot? It's been a while since I've seen it.

I much prefer the first Evil Dead because of its low-budget, me-and-my-friends-are-making-a-horror-movie vibe. That's priceless. :)

Halloween
Exorcist

(I opted not to count Silence of the Lambs and Manhunter as horror. I see those as more like crime movies.)

I have to include Silence of the Lambs. When I saw this at the movies years back, I almost ran home in terror. That performance is one of the scariest ever on film.

And put Psycho on this list too.

I have to say High Tension is my favorite Horror film from the last 10 years. I mean I just love everything about that movie. The originality of the death scenes, the gore, and the twist just blew me away. The opening alone showed how good it was going to be.

How can I forget Saw and Saw II. I know some dismiss these films easily as trash (the samew ay people dimissed the slasher films of the 80's), but I just love em. Especially Saw II.

Another movie reminiscent of Saw II is the first Cube movie. Anyone liked cube?

Add Phantasm to that list for me too.

Hello horror fans,

I love many of the choices made and hearing from so many horror fans warms my dead evil little heart during the greatest month of the year. I did not see some other great movies on these pages, such as:

Night Breed
Lord of Illusion
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
Event Horizon
Creepshow 1&2

Anyway, these and all of the others are such fun and creepy movies for anyone that is a fan of this genre. On a different but similar note I have made several Pumpkin carvings with faux pumpkins from Michaels Crafts. Anyone interest in seeing pics let me know. I used the Pumpkin Master carving tools and some great templates from a private website. These things are wonderful, and the best part with the fake pumpkins is they will be able to be used for years to come!!

Thats the one, it's directed by peter jackson and it's probably the goriest film ever but its never serious, theres always humour to it which makes it good. If you haven't seen it, definately check it out!

In no way do I consider Silence of the Lambs a horror movie. It's a suspense thriller maybe.
