Hmmmm. Not to sure I have a problem w/ this one. I love the original; Leslie Neilson and Robbie. But, since the story is just a retelling of The Tempest anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing a remake. Just as long as they concentrate of a cool, new robot.

On the plus side, it does have Jennifer Connelly. :)

You're thinking of Forbidden Planet.

Before clicking and reading the thread, I was briefly horrified at the idea of people remaking some of those Sci-Fi Channel Original Movies...

You are correct, sir. Damn..the guild called and they want my official Sci-Fi Nerd membership card back.
This mistake's just too big to forgive. LOL

Oh good grief. Hollywood keeps churning out these remakes, and I'll keep avoiding them. This is all I need:

Hollywood is creatively bankrupt and too cowardly to take creative risks.

Tomorrows classics should be being made today.

Ain't happening.

I think possibly the first Matrix was the last really original thing Hollywood tackled.

Expect more remakes, sadly my precious original series Star Trek has now become victim.

I hear remakes of nearly everything now. Last I heard was Poltergiest.

What next? A Christmas Story????

Hollywood is getting less and less of my money every year.

Perhaps the movie going youth demographic is to blame.
They respond to overblown FX, two dimensional characters and as long as there is a smokin' hottie, it gets rave reviews.

There will be no more classics like a Bladerunner that is for sure, well that is unless they REMAKE it. sigh.

I can hear the pitch to the studio now.......

The 1940's was retro in the eighties. Now it is ancient history.

So the film should be remade in the 1960's.

Ralphie wants a Beatles guitar instead of a BB gun.

The Bumpasses are hippies with a commune next door.

And the "major award" is now a lava lamp.

I'd love a remake of this film. Star Trek before there was Star Trek. Great SFX for 1956. Fantastic story. As long as they don't change the plot and just update the SFX a remake would do well. Just please, no Tom Cruise or Jack Black.

I wouldn't be surprised if that poster is cooler than the movie. Does anyone give a dang about remakes like The Time Machine or Lost in Space? No.

Eh, this kind of sucks. I'm a big fan of the original. Still, it would be interesting to see how they tackle Klaatu with today's special effects.

I will say that the ultimate message of this movie NEEDS to be retold in the 21st century. So for these reasons, I support this remake. :thumbs2:

I am not so sure it needs to be told.
It was a different world then, very little time had passed after WWII and the bomb had changed the entire way warfare was viewed.

Well, we didnt nuke ourselves afterall.

How did Klaatus race evolve?

Was it pure as the wind driven snow?

I know it is fictional but the question begs to be asked.

I bet any other races out there had violence as they passed through their species technological adolesence.

In fact were doing damn well if you ask me.

I would bet it all is totally normal of any ascending sentient species.

I don't think we need more warnings from Klaatu thank you.

We need more optimism and positive dreams.

Gene Roddenberry.....

"I believe in humanity. We are an incredible species. We're still just a child creature, we're still being nasty to each other. And all children go through those phases. We're growing up, we're moving into adolescence now. When we grow up - man, we're going to be something!"

"It speaks to some basic human needs, that there is a tomorrow - it's not all going to be over in a big flash and a bomb, that the human race is improving, that we have things to be proud of as humans. No, ancient astronauts did not build the pyramids - human beings built them because they're clever and they work hard. And 'Star Trek' is about those things."

"It isn't all over; everything has not been invented; the human adventure is just beginning."

"Almost all of this comes out of my feeling that the human future is bright. We're just beginning. We have wonders ahead of us. I don't see how it can be any other way, with the way the future is going. We now have got a telescope up there. We're photographing the universe. We're inventing the next life form, which is the computer. We're in the midst of it. And it will happen."

"There is a tomorrow - we humans are going to make it - we're something. To any young-minded person, that's a very important statement."

"I have nothing but admiration for this silly race of ours. Even with the Hitlers in it and so on. Sometimes it goes into ugliness, but, in all though, it is a beauty. It's like a rose, which also has thorns. We're something."

"We're capable of great things. And I've no doubt that the creature that follows us will be capable of even more. Evolution didn't stop with us: 'Oh great and beautiful mankind! We've made it!' -- We haven't. [Evolution] can go on forever."

"Let me dream."
