View Full Version : Anyone want a Ron Lim commission?

galactus

I suppose anyone can get in on this, but it's cheaper for those in the NY area (no shipping fees if we can meet up somewhere). I am going to be giving Ron Lim some commission requests over the next week and wanted to see if anyone was interested in getting something? I would need you to pay me beforehand, as I need to send a check to Ron before he sends out the pieces, so please keep this in mind. He sends everything to me, but I would be willing to send stuff out to people if they pay for shipping. If anyone is interested, please PM or e-mail me with what you are thinking of, and I will get a quote from Ron. Be as specific as possible in terms of poses, costumes, or anything else you are particular about. He does pencils only, no inks or coloring. I want to get this info to him by the end of the week, so please get me your requests as soon as possible. Thanks.

If you don't mind, I'd be willing to help you.
Ron Lim will be at WonderCon in less than two weeks. I could help you out Galactus here on the west coast.
Such as, Ron could do the work for someone on the west coast that conatacts you, and I could pick it up, and mail it out or drop it off...If between San Francisco and Oregon.

I think it depends on the cover. Check with Galactus I as I am sure he can get you a quick response from Mr. Lim.

Say, could you PM me with what Ron is charging?
I think I might get one. I'll have to search his name on that one comic sight and see what he has done exactly. I'm sure everyone is getting Big G or SS...someone like that. I'd have to choose something a little more unique, or unique for this crowd. ;)

Hey All. Thanks for the requests and PMs about Rons stuff. For anyone that requested a Cover Recreation, Team Shots, or anything which was more involved than a "sketch", I have PMed you Rons e-mail address so you can talk/negotiate with him on your own. When the sums of money get up into those areas, I figure it's better that you talk with him directly so you get exactly what you want.
For those that asked about single sketches, separate sketches of different characters, or 3 or 4 characters together on one page. I will get back to you as soon as Ron replys to my e-mail. Thanks all.

Post a pic of the piece if you get a chance.

McKenna inks are really nice. I got this Exiles page out in SD last year by him and Jim Calafiore. I liked that it had all the characters who appeared in the series so far (well, those that had been Exiles at least...)

Great page! McKenna is a great guy. When I brought the Lim Thanos to him he actaully offered to take it home with him so he could really do the piece justice. It was well worth it in my opinion.

How much does inking cost?

Depends on the piece and the inker. I think I paid $20.00 for the Dr. Doom and $40.00 for the Thanos but that was back in 1994.

Wow, those look sweet. Good looking stuff there. My piece cost $80 to ink, though that included the shipping cost. Usually, an inker will charge about 2/3s the cost of the pencils to ink it, though thats just a rough estimate.

Galactus,
Thanks for pussing Ron Lim's work here.
I caught up with him early afternoon of Friday.
Told him my ideas. Gave him some source material. One wasn't really clear.
He said he'll see wat he could do.
Went back that afternoon to tell him I would use my camera to get some better pictures to work with.....
He was already done! Fantastic work!

I also had a chance to chat with Ron Lim last weekend. He is one of the nicest guys you ever want to meet. I wanted a Valkrie sketch. Like Tattoox, I gave him source material and when I went back, done.

I posted these pics on the Wondercon thread, but I'll repost them here. One is the Valkrie sketch he did. He was excited to do that one, because it was one of the few Marvel characters he didn't think he'd done as part of an Infinity project. The second is of Ron and I after convention on Saturday (Ron is the better looking of the two guys in the picture).

Thanks. I've been a fan since I first heard Working Man/Finding My Way on All the World's a Stage and have seen them in concert at least a dozen times over the years (last time was last summer). They don't get stuck in a rut and aren't afraid to work in new sounds. I still can't believe all that music comes from only three people, and it is probably one of the reasons I harshly judge a lot of music that has come out in the last 20 years.
