I'm looking forward to it. Kind of. I really hope they do it justice, but I hate to think what Hollywood might have done with Matheson's story.

I just saw the trailer and the movie looks good. Can someone tell more about this, is this a comic book? Who is Matheson? Who is Omega man?

Don't know about a comic, but it should be based off a book.

I just read this for the first time. Its been a while since Ive been telling myself to read it and the movie forced me too. I found it free online too, but Im gonna go buy it tomarrow so I have it on my shelf. Really good book and Im kind of worried about the movie, but Im anticipating it.

PS if you want a free version send me a PM, just make sure that if you like it then you go buy it. Its hard to find a good book and I think those are pretty much the only thing worthy of actually buying.

Here's the best way to answer your questions.

But I will say about Omega Man in '71 though, that it was up there as one of the worst movies ever in my book.

It looks like a remake of Omega Man that stared Charelton Heston to me...but it does look cool!

Will Smith is IMO in the top 3 of annoying actors. I can't understand how anyone really enjoys him.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that one (for good reason it seems). I did try and catch the Vincent PPrice starrer The Last Man on Earth about a couple of years ago. but the recording screwed up.

Also, for the poster asking if it's a comic, Richard Mathesn's original story was made into a graphic novel so you mighht be able to pick it up somewhere.

It will definitely be an affodable movie to make.....

Not many other actors in it from what I read...

I'm just praying that they've stayed somewhat faithful to the book. If they just filmed the book, it would be a fantastic movie. Even in the ads, they've already changed the story w/ the dog. The dog 'behaved' differently in the novel. Just let this be the only drastic change.

Agreed. I'm probably gonna cry like a school girl when his dog dies in this one.

Lot of good movies coming out soon. Not a fan of Smith but at least it looks like he doesn't play the knowitallbadass in this one. Still can't get over why they'll never stick to the book and make them the pseudo-vampires that they really are.

Interesting that they used the score from the Fountain on the latest trailers.

And wow someone cried from watching Will Smith act? Either from how bad or ridiculous maybe? Ok he's not that horrible but seriously I find him annoying as well.

I am Legend is one of my favourite books of all time. I first read it over 25 years ago and have probably read it about 6 times since.

I must admit to being slightly worried about how this film is going to turn out. I'm not a big fan of Will Smith at all and I just can't see how he's going to bring the same level of pathos and gravitas to the central character if he has his usual wisecracks in this film.

Incidentally has anyone else seen the other film attempt of this book, The Last Man on Earth, starring Vincent Price? Now that is much much closer to the spirit and feel of the book than the Omega Man. I have it on DVD and it's definitely worth a watch although it is a bit dated now. I think it was Italian made or something.

Yes. Vincent Price is one of my all time favs and this film rocked. :buttrock:

I just never liked Charleton Heston because his acting, highly overrated, IMO, is reminiscent of Adam West camping it up in Batman or any bad B movie or soft core porn he was in.

I agree with you. The book is one of the best short-novels I've ever read. Nevel was a pretty serious man in the book. I can't see there being much room for Smith launching into his usual zingers; no one to catch them. I guess why were seeing the dog so much in the previews is that he'll be used as a means for Smith's character to verbally express himself for the sake of film. The book was composed of his thoughts mostly even though he did talk to the dog a little.

Price's version was excellent. Very faithful. Although...your right...there was something about the production and extras being Italian that I found distracting. I guess the backing/money/production were all Italian.

And, even though he hams it up, I love the Omega Man. They nail the whole deserted city thing. Bodies everywhere, Heston firing up Woodstock at the local movie-house, memorizing all the dialog. His conversations with his Napolian bust, his boozing..the movie worked on some levels.
