Despite the fact that TERMINATOR 3 was a major disappointment (even with the lovely Claire Danes), I'm still a big fan of the franchise and have high hopes for this "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" that Fox is debuting in January. Lena Headley (300) is taking over for the great Linda Hamilton in the role with Thomas Dekker ("Heroes") filling the many shoes John Connor has worn. According to Fox, the show will go something like this:
THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES reveals what happens when SARAH stops running and goes on the offensive against an ever-evolving technological enemy bent on destroying her life, and perhaps the world. Her son, 15-year-old JOHN CONNOR, knows that he may be the future savior of mankind, but is not yet ready to take on the mantle of leadership that he’s told is his destiny. John finds himself inextricably drawn to CAMERON, an enigmatic and otherworldly student at his high school, who soon proves to be much more than his confidante – she assumes the role of Sarah and John’s fearless protector. On their trail are not only threats from the future, but an intelligent and tough FBI agent, JAMES ELLISON, who soon becomes a powerful ally.

Today, Entertainment Weekly is debuting four new teaser posters for the show including the two below, which highlight Connor and the mysterious Cameron (Summer Glau). Click on either of the posters below to check 'em all out. "Sarah Connor Chronicles" hits Fox on January 14th.

Since no one else has mentioned it yet, I'd like to point out that the girl in the first poster is Summer Glau, who played River in the Firefly tv series and Serinity movie. Based on her fight with the Reavers at the end of Serinity, she could make a very good Terminator.

Sunday 1/13/08 8 PM

Monday 1/14/08 9 PM

For those of you not watching football & may be unaware of this, set your DVR/VCR to record past 9 PM on Sunday night. There is a good chance that the Giants/Cowboys gave will not end at 8, therefore T:SCC will run past 9 & you will be pi$$ed if you don't see the end :)

It Takes a Tough Mama to Fight Off a Terminator

http://content.tvguide.com/NR/rdonlyres/E54D9C44-FBD2-4DCC-8A74-21770C053219/25013/080108roushreview.jpgOwain Yoeman and Lena Headey
Can TV's new Terminator series succeed where last fall's botched Bionic Woman failed? Fair question. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is even more relentlessly grim, and way more bone-crunchingly violent, than NBC's Bionic dud. But dull it's not. Set in the aftermath of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, this show lives up to its franchise's reputation for suspenseful action.
TV's riveting incarnation of Sarah Connor, unlike the sullen cipher of the new Jaime Sommers, embodies primal urges anyone can relate to: a mother's ferocious need to survive and to safeguard her offspring.
Lena Headey (300), projecting urgent desperation amid the mayhem, is awesomely capable of filling Linda Hamilton's running shoes. On the lam from the law and from the killer machines sent back from an apocalyptic future, she is both a fox and a lioness. Acting tough may keep her alive. Enforcing tough-love discipline may keep her teenaged son alive.
Poor John Connor (Thomas Dekker), prime target of the Terminators because of his destiny as a freedom fighter, doesn't emerge as much of a character yet. He's overshadowed by the women of the story: Besides his mom, there's an unexpected ally in the willowy but tough Cameron (Firefly's enigmatic Summer Glau), who looks harmless but turns out to be a protector of unusual mettle (pun intended).
When good cyborg clashes with bad cyborg, it literally brings the walls down. These are some serious rock-'em, sock-'em robots. If at times all of the explosive carnage feels like overkill, there's no denying the stakes are high in this
fugitive chase thriller. As famously promised years ago, the Terminator is back yet again. Hasta la vista, boredom.

Dammmn. This starts tonight but so does the last installment of Larry McMurty's Lonesome Dove saga, Comanche Moon. This one was written by McMurtry and directed by the same guy who did the original in 1989, which I loved. The reviews have been strong. I'm torn. Do I invest in another potential Bionic Woman or do I head back to Lonesome Dove and ride with Agustus and Woodrow one last time?

I was wrong. Chronicles ends and Camanche begins. Will work out just fine.

doesn't this show suppost to fill in the gap between T2 and T3?

No, I read that T3 happened in an alternate timeline.

In a June 20, 2007 interview, Friedman said the show will avoid the "Terminator of the Week" plot device and that Sarah, John, and Cameron will have other threats than just Terminators. Skynet will also come into play as the series progresses. Furthermore, Friedman stated that the events of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines occur in an alternate timeline from that of the TV series.[6] In addition to having planned the entire story arc for the first season, Friedman has a rough idea for the plot of the following three seasons.[7]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sarah_Connor_Chronicles

Sarah Connor Chronicles happens after T2, but doesn't flow into T3. T4 when it is made will continue from T3.

So, the flow is like this.

T1 continues into-->T2.
T2-->branches into 2 different stories/timeline--->(a)T3, and---->(b)Sarah Connor Chronicles.

T3 goes into----->T4.

I didn't catch it last night, but will be tonight. I would think it'd be the same episode two nights in a row to grab viewers.. having two episodes back-to-back on adjoining evenings seems a little harsh.. If people missed week one, they're already two episodes behind, in that case.

This series is developing into a really good show, the writing seems to be the strength of the show. I have to rewatch the first to episodes to see if the story line of jumping into the future works. IT seems if she died in 05 then how wouldnt she have seen the towers fall?

I'm pretty sure I remember sarah saying something like we stopped skynet 2 years ago why is it starting all over again, and the girl terminator says someone else activates it.

the military guy turns the system on in T3

But, the time-jump explains why the T3 movie is now 'alternate universe'. I hate to spoil it for those who missed the first ep, but if anyone wants to discuss it, just PM me.

The strength of the show is in the writing and story line thus far,
I would have thought the visual effects would have been the clincher but it's not. We saw the terminator in machine form a couple of times and I wasnt dissapointed at all.
If they keep the writing on this level this show will be a nice hit for the fox network. I am curious to find out how many people turned in to see the show both nights.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles: One Tough Mother

by Kate Hahn

http://content.tvguide.com/NR/rdonlyres/58A350F1-4828-4FD0-8800-B7407B70F909/25182/080116coverstory.jpgLena Headey
Lena Headey, star of Fox's new Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, looks like someone you don't want to mess with. In a gloomy underground tunnel in Los Angeles, she and two burly actors in police uniforms are shooting a fight sequence so intense they're stirring up clouds of dust. Headey, clad entirely in black, kicks and jabs until she has the cops on the ground. "Lena can summon an internal fierceness that is incredibly important for this role. There's a fire in her," consulting producer James Middleton says. And this morning's brawl is just her warm-up. Later today, she'll rappel down an elevator shaft — after the crew blasts a giant hole in the wall.
The show picks up two years after the 1991 film Terminator 2: Judgment Day left off. Living under the radar and on the run with her teenaged son, John (Thomas Dekker, who played Zach on Heroes), Sarah's trying to train him to be the savior of mankind, protect him from the Terminators sent from the future to kill him, and stop the evil computer network Skynet from starting a nuclear apocalypse. And oh yeah, get dinner on the table and make sure the kid does his homework. "You are looking at someone who's trying to be a great mom and give her kid normality, and at the same time they're both aware that their day job is to save the world," Headey says.
Through it all, she's pursued by FBI agent James Ellison (Richard T. Jones). The question of whom Sarah can trust will dog her as she tries to find out how Skynet became operational — considering in T2 she blew up the Cyberdyne lab where it was being built. She and John will get some help from Cameron (The Unit'sSummer Glau) — named after franchise creator James Cameron, who is not involved in the TV series. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger in T2, she's a Terminator sent to protect John.
But a killer machine, played by Owain Yeoman (The Nine) in the first episode, gets in their way. He's blown apart but puts himself back together, transforming his appearance so drastically that he'll later be portrayed by a different actor, Deadwood's Garret Dillahunt.
There are so many blasts, crashes and shoot-outs that die-hard Terminator fans may want to install surround-sound just to maximize the viewing experience. No pale imitation of the original, this small-screen show has big-screen production values and a not-so-little budget. ("The series is expensive, but not the most expensive out there" is as specific as Middleton will get about costs.) It also benefits from the expertise of stunt coordinator Joel Kramer, who served in the same capacity on T2.
The physical demands of the job suit Headey, who played Queen Gorgo in 300 last year. "I've always loved keeping fit," says the 34-year-old British actress, her slim frame tucked into a director's chair during a break. Some of her fighting ability comes from training in a gritty south London boxing gym. "It gives you great concentration, which I don't possess naturally," she says.
But there will be quieter moments in the show. "It's a different time," Headey adds. "We get to know Sarah more. I think she was a closed door emotionally in the movies, and here you're getting to see her and John [interact more]." We also may see more of her love life with Charley Dixon (Dean Winters), her fiancé she left behind in the premiere. But as Middleton points out, "People who get close to her have a high mortality rate."

I loved yesterday's episode when the female terminator
a) got hit by the car and the family was just shocked out of their minds (the reaction was funny). "everything will be ok."
b) when she was trying to pose and act like that female gang member by the car
c) "diamonds are a girl's best friend" scene

for an android, she's got character:thumbs2:

I hope the writer's strike gets figured out soon, or we won't get more episodes

Look, as I see it, it all kinda works out like this:

If you believe that the future war was inevitable then you have Terminator 3 and the upcoming movies.

If you (like Cameron himself) believe that it can possibly be avoided then now you have the continuing struggle to do just that in the new series.

Both of these pick up after Terminator 2 and then go in their own individual directions. So basically you have three choices after Terminator 2:

You can take the open ended ending of that film as the end of the Terminator story, pull over and leave the franchise right there.

Or you can take the left fork in the road and follow the Terminator 3 route of inevitability, and enjoy that ride if it's to your taste.

Or you can take the right fork in the road and follow the new show where the struggle to avoid the war continues, and hopefully enjoy that if it's more your thing.

Personally I think us Terminator fans are spoiled for choice now, and that's a cool thing in my books. Me, I'm gonna follow this new show and see where it leads, as I'm really enjoying the ride so far.

Will the future bring better things in the other direction? Who knows, but right now I'm having a pretty damn good time regardless, and this new show is far better than I frankly expected it to be, and I can't wait for the next few episodes to see if it can continue it's run of quality.

Sure I still have the odd quibble with a few things here and there (such as the endo skull making it through the time sphere to the future when we were always told "nothing dead will go") but overall it's been a damn strong start, and is pretty well cast as far as the leads go at least. Headey is great as Sarah Connor, following on from Linda Hamilton really nicely in my opinion, something that I had serious doubts could be pulled off successfully, being a huge fan of Hamilton in the first two films. Glau is interesting so far as the new Terminator with secrets of her own, while Dekker is solid enough as the latest John Connor.

Like I say, looking forward to see this thing play out further... :)

Wow TVGuide.com columnists answering a question about Chronicles (Highlight to read:confused: )

Question: Oddly enough, we don't see much coverage of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Is Fox satisfied with the ratings? — Dusty
Ausiello: Doesn't sound like it. One of my House moles tells me that the network is panicking over SCC's relatively soft ratings (this week's ep finished third in its time slot, with roughly eight million viewers) because the show's budget is so astronomical. "They should have given that show the post-Super Bowl slot instead of us," says my spy. "They needed it; we didn't." A Fox insider, meanwhile, points out that SCC is the No. 1 new drama in every demo.

Fox has announced that it will air the two season-ending episodes of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles back-to-back on Monday, March 3.

The episodes are titled "Vick's Chip" and "What He Beheld."

Here's how Fox describes the episodes:

Except, Kyle has to meet up with John Connor in the future before he can go back in time and sire him. Such is the dilemma of the time travel story.

Personally, I think they should just get really creepy and disturbing and totally F with the timeline, and have John Connor get someone pregnant with twins that turn out to be Derek and Kyle.

One of the few shows that I felt didn't need one season under its belt before it really "got going". The actors involved seemed to find their characters within the first couple of episodes. Even my wife liked it right away, too.

Well, there you go. In the T3 version of the future Sarah dies of Cancer and Judgement Day happens and Claire Dane is a vet (or something). But in this version, because Cameron turned up and "jumped" Sarah and John into the future that version of reality was changed. Which is why Kyle Reese no longer looks like Michael Bhein. :D

Too bad they (re)cast Kyle Reese as such a simpering ninny though, really wish they would have cast better in that role, even if it was basically just an extended cameo. I mean Biehn was so great as Kyle Reese in the original Terminator film, and this kid they got to play Kyle this week was sure as hell no Michael Biehn. Hell, he wasn't even a Rick Rossovich.

Overall though I've really been enjoying this show, and it's turned out far better and far more interesting than I would have thought. Also, in many way, far more in tune with Cameron's original films' vision and thematics than Terminator 3 was.

Ratings are good but it costs a lot to produce. Plus FOX are notorius for not giving shows sufficient time if they aren't instant money makers.

It wasn't a season finale..... Alot of shows you are getting bad seasons endings because they were not meant to be the end. Prison Break, and now this one, because of the writer strike.

This is the most current list of cancelations so far:
The 4400 (USA)
Big Shots (ABC)
Bionic Woman (NBC)
Cavemen (ABC)
The Dead Zone (USA)
Girlfriends (CW)
Journeyman (NBC)
K-Ville (FOX)
Las Vegas (NBC)
Life Is Wild (CW)
Nashville (FOX)
Quarterlife (NBC)
Viva Laughlin (CBS)
WWE Friday Night Smackdown! (CW)
Sarah Conner Chronicles:
Because of the writers strike, only nine of the 13 ordered episodes were completed. FOX has opted not to put the show back into production so tonight’s pair of episodes will be the last of the season. Looking solely at the declining ratings, they’d likely be the end of the series as well.

I agree with everything on that list -but- the Sarah Conner chronicles. They need to sell that to someone who'll run with it, if they're just going to toss it on the body pile with Drive and Firefly.

FOX hates Joss Whedon and anyone associated with him, it appears.

I am reallt liking this show.

Summer makes an awesome terminator, showing no emotion - great choice!

To all those idiots complaing about Lena hedly not being fit to play sarah connor- get a life!!!

This show takes place in the timeline of the first two films and does not include T3 - just the cameron films

saw the third episode the other day(the turk and it was the best by far. The ending was brilliant.

Glad that it has been renewed for another season

as I said before, she makes a perfect terminator showing no emotions, and if she isn't good looking in your book, you must be picky ;)

I think Glau is fantastic. I've been a fan since Firefly. If you don't think she can kick @ss, check out the scene at the end of the movie "Serenity".

The show has my attention and I'm glad I've been following it.

Just watched the original Terminator movie with my son last night. It holds up better than I thought it would, although the CGI is amateur at best.

Maybe Cameron should do a George Lucas and re-jig some of the effects from the first Terminator?

There is a really bad effect in the second one too. When the lorry is on its side, sliding towards the factory with Arnie on top, when it hits, Arnie flies off and rolls on the floor, not sure how they did it but it looks terrible.

oh, i don't mean like that, it is just i found the end totally cringe-worthy, what with Arnuld trying to do 'emotion' from what is supposed to be something emotionless, completely spoiled the film for me

Stop motion is not the same as animatronics. Stop motion would be like ED-209 in Robocop. I don't remember something like that in Terminator but I haven't seen it in a loooong time.

GOOD NEWS!

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
The bad news: For as much money as Fox poured into this show in terms of promotion and special effects, it should've done better.
The good news: The network seems to think it will do better next season — it's already staffing up.
Odds of Survival: 9

More good news:

Question: Any scoop on Sarah Connor Chronicles?
Answer: Two scoops, as it were. The show is hunting for a couple of new regulars: Becky, a hot teenaged hipster, and Catherine, an unusually earthy business bigwig in her early forties. Which leads me to believe that young John is about to get a girlfriend. Because of the new teenager, I mean, not the 40-year-old female Bill Gates. Although, now that I mention it, he does have some mother issues.
