Anyone having a hard time deciding on whether to pick up the PS3, this deal should remove any doubt. This info was provided at bd.com by a Walmart employee.

On 11/24 at 8:00am (running through 11:59pm on 11/25), the 80GB PS3 ($499) will come with 10 FREE Blu-ray movies instantly. You choose any 10 BD titles under $30 within the store and they will override the prices to zero. For those stores that carry BD already, additional titles are being sent in for the sale. For those that do not have BD in their store (a small minority) product will be sent to each store specifically for this sale.

Oh, and you still get your 5 FREE movies by mail.

Happy shopping.

My question is do I get this one and sell my 40gb PS3 to be backwards compatable or keep the 40GB and sell the 80 GB and keep the 10 free Bluray dvds?

15 movies and no games. :thumbs2: They should have cut down the movies and included at least 2 games.

That's a good deal.

Hey Bull's do you buy your Blueray player's from America?

If yes.

Do you have the same electrical conduits in Ireland as they do in America?

If no.

How do you use your Blueray player?

I buy my movies about 50% from the US and 50% UK. But i am thinking of picking up an American PS3. I have an up/down convertor to convert 220v to 110v.

All the information in the first post is absolutely correct (times and all). The only catch is that the extra shipment/supply of movies isn't much of a shipment. I'd say it's also contingent on how many 80GB PS3s your local Wal-Mart has because - from what I know - they're not shipping any extra in for the sale.

Anyway, back to the movies, there's one PDQ (the display units you see in Wal-Mart) of Blu-Ray movies, and it doesn't contain many movies at all. Don't know what movies are there, but I can tell you there's not much there quantity wise.

My best advice is to line up early.

If I get one then I have to decide which one to keep the 40 or the 80GB PS3.

Wow this is a good deal. I've been on the fence for a while with the PS3 (I'm mostly interested in a BD player rather than another gaming machine) and have been patient, waiting for the right deal. This may be it. Only problem is I work Saturday and I have a feeling these won't last long at this price.

Is the 80GB the largest drive size?

Bullseye
11-22-2007, 04:11 AM
Yes. There is an 80, 60 and 40gig version.

This is the one that is 80 GB and comes with the MotorStorm game.
He was very suprised that there was no one else waiting.
He even rang me up early! Before 8am whne the sale was supose to start.:thumbs2:

10 free Blurays in the store plus another 5 by mail!!!
Thats a $450 value!!!

Yeah, the sale didn't go over that well from what I seen either; and I don't think Wal-Mart expected it to as there were no additional PS3s sent out. As far as I know there's no "end time" on it, it's for the entire day, so if anyone still wants to bite there's a good chance you'll still be able to find the deal at your local Wal-Mart.

Also, the execution of it was fairly terrible; since they had to "price override" each individual Blu-Ray they needed a manager to approve any item over $20. If there was an actual line of people that would have been extremely frustrating.

The sad thing is when I was at Gamestop yesterday I saw a mom buy her kids a Wii and a PS3 80 GB, with no extras...but then again she was buying it for the games and not the free dvds.

Give it a try, Monster. I went in around 10 am and my Wal-mart still had 4-80 gig PS3's.

I don't see why my comments were an issue. What I did isn't illegal and the store in question actually benefited from my exchanges as I spent more money and cleared out some less popular titles.

Ugh, I'm so frustrated. I went out this morning and picked up the PS3 + 10 offer, and even bought 5 more on my own dime. I get it home and discover that for whatever reason, my older ProScan 780p TV refuses to see that it's receiving input from the HDMI source.

God, I really hope that it's just because of a crappy HDMI cable and that replacing it will take care of the problem. Otherwise, I might as well jsut take it all back... :bawling:

We had five PS3s at the beginning of the day, and only sold two of them through the entire day. I thought we'd end up selling through all five honesty, but I didn't think there'd be enough demand for a line or anything.

One guy waited for almost 3 hours, then there was another couple that were trying their hardest to get the Spider-Man box set to count as three separate movies (didn't fly), then I bought the third one. So we didn't sell one after 8:15 or so.

Oh, sometimes you have to setup the PS3 to use HDMI, it doesn't do it right out of the box. Just connect your PS3 to your tv using the yellow cable and go to Display setting and set it to HDMI

Yeah, I did that (well, I tried to, anyway). But even with the PS3 set to HDMI, my TV just wouldn't recognize that it was there.

I opted instead to hook it up to my 1080i TV with component cables, through a Pelican switcher so that I have access to my Xbox 360 as well. (My TV is maxed out on connections, so it was a regrettable necessity.)

So, I'm now going to keep my eye out for a nice 46" flat screen TV and I'll be needing to pick up a decent receiver along with it. The downside being that if I get a new receiver, I'll also need a new set of speakers, since my current set up has what looks to be proprietary connections through a 5-disc DVD player. Ah, home theater setups... the fun never ends!

Thats the joy of home theater. Its out of date the next year lol. The trick is not to get too tied up in it. I recently replaced my Sony 36" with a Panasonic 50" plasma. My speakers are still awesome but in order to get HD Audio i have to replace my Yamaha with something maybe in the new year.

Yeah, I was a little bummed that I might not be able to use my new PS3 without investing another $2K in a new TV and perhaps other stuff. Mostly because I just don't have $2K to dump into somethign like that right now.

Fortunately, I was able to put together an acceptible solution for about $50. That'll get me through until something better comes along.

The good thing about the PS3 is it will still be up to date for at least another 5 years.

I just have to figure out the wireless internet connection thingy...

There wasn't much to figure out on mine when I set it up. I just went to the network settings, told it I wanted to use wireless and had it search for the connection. It saw my home network, I connected and easy peasy, I was downloading the update and browsing the internet.
