Is there a HUGE difference between the 1080i and the 1080p HD DVD players???
I just picked up the A3 a few weeks ago, but I haven't opened it yet. Thinking about the 1080p aspect now and am on the fence. Also looking at getting a new TV to boot! HELP!!!!:( :(

Is there a huge difference? It's probably not something that will be noticeable by the majority of folks. In fact a lot of folks can't even see much difference between 720p and 1080. And if you have a set that is 50" or smaller it's gonna be even less noticeable. I'm running 1080i on my 32" HD TV and it's pretty near perfect to my eyes. Keep it.

There really is no difference most of the time.

With a 1080i player, your HDTV processes the signal into 1080p.

With a 1080p player, the Toshiba HD DVD player sends the progressive signal.

So, don't waste your money on a 1080p player.

There are some other small differences too but overall, the A3 or even A2 will be just fine.

Thanks Gruson. I was gonna post this myself. I'll jsut expand on it a little:

Occasionally, I see some confusion about which is the best "resolution". The short answer is 1080i and 1080p BOTH have 1080 lines of resolution. If, as Gruson states, your TV is capable correctly deinterlacing an interlaced signal then save yourself the cash and buy a 1080i player and have your TV do the deinterlacing. Both the 1080i and the 1080p players out there support DolbyTruHD and the latest DTS format (never can remember the name of that) through HDMI.

So go ahead and buy the A2 or the A3 it's well worth it.

Thanks for the link Zurb, I picked one of these up last night before work and they had dropped the price down to $159 by that point

Where did you find it for $159? I'm planning on getting one for my step father for X-mas but I'm still seeing it listed on Amazon at $199.

When you click on the link Zurb provided, it lists the player as $199 (While supplies last), but the actual link down below the description tells you to click to see the price. When I bought mine it was $159. When I tried it just now, it showed $177, so apparently they've raised the price since then, but it's still cheaper than $199

Not a problem :)

Just got done catching hell from the wife. I'd told a buddy at work about the deal and it turns out he was holding an HD player my wife got me for Christmas. Oops...

Which creates a nice internal conflict on which friend's trust to betray, lol. Oh well, it worked out well in the end and we all got a good laugh at it.

I told the wife this morning on the way home about your guilt in pushing how great HD is... :thumbs2:
