I'm guessing because Singer is gay and gay men played Lex Luthor and Magneto so why not Superman.

Singer is gay? well i didn’t know that and I'm just wondering if he thought it would have helped the film make more money if Supes was played by a gay actor. it wouldn’t have made a difference to me but I'm guessing that may have been his thinking?

I did a search and it was a rumor that some magazine started, but Spacey maintains that it was not true. Singer though, is gay.
