Hi all. Anybody ever try to paint plastic model or resin kit with lady's lacquer nail polish? I would like to try because the color variation is great. No need to hassle mixing to find the right color especially metallic. Please give me some information or your experience on this subject. Thx

nvr actually tried it but have thought about it plenty of times. lol. i have tons of nail polish in diff colors (ofcourse). i dont see that there would be a prob on the resin kits and u can always clean up with acetone or nail polish remover with acetone. dont leave it too long, im not sure it would ruin the kit. but most "fake nails" at salons get done using powdered resin. if you try it def let me know! lol
any of the kit experts wanna chime in to see if itd hurt the resin, vinyl, etc.

Hmm i never thought of that, all tho drying time might be a hassle if painting at certain angles. Sot sure how a chemical like testors dull coat would react to it.
Myabe Danno might know more on it.

drying time wouldnt be a prob, they also sell a spray overcoat at like walmart that dries it faster and protects. :)

I don't see a problem spraying this at all. Basically, nail polish is an enamel paint and quite tough when dried/cured. Don't ever use this on a vinyl kit (enamels don't dry over vinyl) but on resin, you should have no problem.

I thought nail polish is lacquer paint and not enamel? I suppose it is the same as Mr Hobby / Gunze lacquer paint right?

I'm by no means a painter, but my partner just built and painted a few guitar pedals. He bought several types of nail polish and painted both pedals with it. They turned out great, and had colors you really wouldn't find elsewhere.

I saw a few Japanese model making videos a while back where the girl thinned her nail polish with Mr. Color lacquer thinner, it's a lot less potent than the generic kind found at Lowes etc.
