Batman for one reason Lex is obsessed with killing Superman and it blinds him to many things.
Mr. Terrific and Ray Palmer are also very smart.

I'd have to disagree there...I think Bat's is more intellignt and AT LEAST as crafty and clever as Lex. Put it thi s way...if Bats was a villain, he wouldn't fail to take out Superman like Lex does all the time

Lex loses because he seems to want to beat Superman on Superman's terms. It's a machismo thing. He wants to humiliate him, break him down, and wants Superman to know it was him who beat him. If you take that out of the equasion, Superman may be easily outsmarted. Lex's deal with Superman is generally about pride. Lex doesn't generally worry about these sorts of things when he spearheads hostile takeovers or runs for president (and wins).

Batman doesn't play politics. He isn't sinister. Also, he isn't power hungry. Lex is all those three things (and more). He has no qualm getting his hands dirty to get his way. That's what makes him "craftier" than Bruce. Bruce tends to be far too single minded and bullheaded. I would imagine that he would underestimate Lex in an all out duel.

Same means...Different ends.
Both men had a traumatic childhood....but the morals/ideals instiled by those that raised them caused them to use thier exceptional abilities/focus in totally opposite directions.

Without Alfred and the rest of the Bat family/allies reminding Bruce what he should stand for...Luthor (no matter how smart) would just be a distant memory by now. IMO.
