The end of Legion Quest when every X-Men/Factor/Force character watched the end of their reality coming.

That was when I stopped buying regular MU X related stuff. It was a fitting end to characters that I loved. Marvel just cheapened the whole thing by bringing everything back as it was before. They should have continued with the AOA universe instead.

X-men annual #11 stands out as one of Wolverine's high moments. By not succumbing to his greatest temptation, he defeated the Horde and saved the human race from becoming the eternal guardian of the Citadel. Although he dies in the end when the villain rips out his heart (something sabretooth always bragged about but never accomplished), his body, and apparently his metal endoskeleton, was regenerated from the crystal, and mankind was deemed worthy to continue its evolution.

tied between the death of Karen Paige and the death of Gwen Stacey for tragedy.

for triumph I always liked Rom's defeat of the Dire Wraith race on Earth.

My favorite Triumph would have to be when The Thing stands up to the Champion in the boxing match in the Marvel Two in One Annual. One of my all time favorite stores and shows why Ben Grimm is such a great character.

FF 51. Both tragedy and triumph are covered to full effect in this stand alone. Epic storytelling at its best.

He paid the price in full, and he paid it like a man.

After being whipped by Moonstone repeatedly, Cap finally comes back to beat him on the White House lawn. Only to find out later the mysterious leader was the President (who kills himself rather than be taken captive).

A confused and dejected Cap retires, and eventually becomes Nomad.

That is my ABSOLUTE favorite X-men/Wolverine story. That came out right about the time I started collecting X-men. Great stuff.

Xmen 137, Phoenix/ Jean Grey's death. Both a triumph & tragedy.
