They actually changed it to a statue (not an action figure as originally stated). I don't know if it will have a base.

Here is some more great info:

Yes, I've seen this and I'm glad they have given him a fire whip and not that flaming butter knife. Interesting if this is going to be made into a statue. I'll definitely pick one up either way.

Damn. That gives me a chance to pick up a decent Balrog. What sort of money will this piece go for?

Looking at the original post that baby is going to be 22" high with a 3 1/2 foot wingspan!!! It was also supposed to include a flaming sword along with the whip. Right above the woman's head it seems to say that they are looking into the feasability of adding a light-up something. Can't quite make out what the something is though. That thing is going to be huge and take up some major real estate.

I want one of those bad. And this looks like my best chance. Its going to be pretty close to the scale of the majority of the SS stautes.

This one may lessen the demand for the sideshow one, I may even sell the baby Balrog I bought recently.

Yes the 20 inch action figure was cut sometime ago, cause of cost, but NECA will be doing statue, about the same scale as the pewter giant they did...

Azog, I have the pewter Balrog and unless they are downsizing it from the measurements given, this thing is gonna be quite a bit bigger, no? The Pewter has a 16" wingspan and they mention 3 1/2 feet for this one.

For $100 bucks (whether they meant the vinyl figure or the statue) seems cheap. I hope they don't do a crappy paint job like alot of the Marvel Exclusives club stats. This is nice though and I really like it. I look forward too it.

It will be a painted version of the pewter not resin or poly from what was relayed to be

But it will be a lot bigger than the pewter verison, right?

Also, the sculpt has changed since the pewter. I like this new one, with whip, better.

Any high quality shots of it yet Azog?

Thanks,

JW

Not that it would be wierd to be painted pewter but I also thought the sculpt seemed different then the pewter version. Looking alot better IMO.

If it's pewter, I can't see it being any bigger than the one I have. That damn thing is heavy enough.....if this is true, you won't have shelves strong enough to hold it!!

Where can the pewter version be bought from? I have only seen one on ebay.
Alos, how much is it?

There is an Amalgama Pewter version with an issue size of 2000 which retails for $95. Additionally there is a non Amalgama version with an issue size of 400 and it retails for $195. They are basically very similar and I don't know that it's worth spending the extra money for the $195 one. If you plan on painting it you may be better off with the amalgama version. I recently picked up one of the Amalgama's off eBay for $95 and when I took it out of the box and flipped the base it was one of the 400 series. Funny too because the box I got it in is the amalgama box. Here are some pics and there's one with the baby Balrog for a size comparison. It is a heavy piece as Rick notes:

I have to agree with Ghost. I sure hope this isn't done in Pewter. Besides they've already got the Pewter versions, why do another. It's basically the same.

I talked to Randy Falk from NECA in a live chat last October at Dread Central, along with several other people and he said Balrog as a figure plans had pretty much been scrapped, whether that has changed or not, I do not know.... In last months issue of Toyfare, or perhaps Lee's Toy Review (can not recall) a Balrog Painted Statue from NECA (be it pewter or not) was mentioned.... Just so everyone does not think I am making this stuff up...LOL :)

Yeah it would basically become just another variant. If they have the license, why pass up the chance to make a kickazz statue? How much would you guys say the pewter one weighs?

RickDTM
03-03-2005, 08:28 AM
8-10 lbs easy.

Zurbaran1

Yeah, that sucker is heavy.

RickDTM

If this one winds up as pewter and the only variant is the whip and arm, I think I'll just keep mine, ditch the butter knife, and make a whip of my own.
