Did anyone see this last week? It played at our theater for two days last week, unfortunately, I was out of town:redface: would like to know if it was any good?

Are you talking about this movie?
I've seen the Japanese DVD (which has been out for a while), and loved it.
It stays somewhat true to the Anime/Manga, but is pretty cool at the same time.

I love the way they adapted L to the big screen.

I recommend it to anyone who likes the Anime (or Manga), or someone new to it. :thumbs2:

Part 2 is also out on available in Japan and can be found at online shops. I liked part 2 until the last 30 mins where it becomes just horrible. Up through most of the movie it stays almost absolutely true to the Anime (sometimes even word for word), but when you get to the last 30 mins, it takes a completely different turn. If you're a die hard Death Note fan, then DON'T watch part 2, as you will be grossly disappointed with the outcome. :thumbsdow

I love the anime....not sure how this would translate to 3-d. The androgenous looking male leads don't help.

I think the males looks alot better in the movie itself than they do in the movie promo posters. I think L was casted perfectly and is as close to the Anime as they could have possibly done. Light could have been better, but he wasn't terrible. :)

Yes, this one, I didn't know that this has been out for awhile now. It was on the Big screen a couple of weeks ago. didn't get the chance to see it. Do you know if the DVD is in Japanese or in english?
I didn't know that there was a #2 either, I'll probably want to watch it too.
Thanks for the info!!

The DVD was in Japanese (which is much better to watch than the English version). Part 2 came out a while back too. A part 3 is also in the works, but that's going to be a completely different story (more like a spin off). After you watch part 2, you'll wonder how they can make a part 3. :thumbsdow

I picked up both of the movies on DVD last year at SDCC; they were only Japanese audio but did have English subtitles. As mentioned, these follow the manga and anime pretty well (not perfectly, but ok) up until the end, when they depart completely! No idea why they decided to end the way they did and throw out about 1/3 of the manga/anime storyline. Anyway, I liked them enough to go see the English dub last week at the theater. These are fun movies, no Oscar material by any stretch of the imagination, but you will probably like them if you like the manga/anime. The crowd at the theater certainly did! It was a lot more crowed than I had expected, mostly with tweens and teens, but a few of us "adults" thrown in too! The kids would cheer every time a new cast member made their first appearance in the movie, especially for L, Light, Misa and Ryuk! It actually made the movie a little more fun to watch!! :buttrock:

One last thing... the biggest mystery to me is why they didn't make Misa blond???

I think Misa was casted well, even though she wasn't blonde. :)

The 1st part was fun to watch. Especially looking for the characters to show up.

The second part was good until the last 30 mins (like I said before). I still don't understand why they would stay completely true to the Anime for almost 4 hours and finally just quit at the last 30 mins, lol.

Saw it last week in the theater and thought it was pretty good. Second half did start to drag a bit but still was a good premise for a movie.

Wasn't sure if they could pull off Ryuk well in the movie but he was great.

Now I'm thinking about picking up the statue. :buttrock:

I own both of these movies & enjoyed the 1st one but have yet to watch part 2. Something no one has mentioned is that they are both very long, almost 2 & a half hours.

Just read an article that says they are making a US based version of Death Note.

I was REALLY leaning towards getting that one as I'm more inclined to get museum poses but because of the lack of wings I havent gotten it yet.

yeah, and for the price they charge they could've easily added them as accesories to be taken on and off

What a creepy looking character.
I've never heard of this...

Is this supposed to be genuine horror or more along the line for teens?

neither, the "creepy looking character" is little more then an observer. it's obviously got a ton of mystical elements in it, but i'd say it's more of a crime story then a horror one....but with monsters and a notebook that kills people:p

Did anyone see the finale for the Anime on Cartoon Network??

Spoiler

If you've seen both the second movie and the last episode, then you will see they both end in a very similiar way. I REALLY hated both endings. It seems the show had no way to end which would keep the fans happy. If they were to have Light lose then it should have at least been to L. I thought Near was a terrible character.

i agree would've prefered L to win, but it would've been very lame to have the 2 of them working together the whole time without the guy whos the worlds 3 greatest detectives stopping him. anyway i liked the ending, really made me feel sorry for Light, which is saying a lot
