Antarctica base gets 16,500 condoms before darkness
Mon Jun 9, 1:24 PM ET

One of the last shipments to a U.S. research base in Antarctica before the onset of winter darkness was a year's supply of condoms, a New Zealand newspaper reported Monday.

Bill Henriksen, the manager of the McMurdo base station, said nearly 16,500 condoms were delivered last month and would be made available, free of charge, to staff throughout the year to avoid the potential embarrassment of having to buy them.

The base only has a skeleton staff through the long winter.

"Since everybody knows everyone, it becomes a little bit uncomfortable," Henriksen told the Southland Times newspaper.

About 125 scientists and staff are stationed at McMurdo base, the largest community in Antarctica, during the winter months when there is constant darkness.

The first sunrise will occur on August 20 and McMurdo's population will start to increase again in September when supply flights resume, peaking at more than 1,000 during the summer period.

Are you kidding me? The first one was great, very difficult but a great game. This one is better, more blood, cut off limbs and stuff. The gameplay is easier than the 1st (has an easier setting). I love it so far :thumbs2:

Yeah, I am a custodian in an elementary school and I finish my section by 8pm nightly and I watch at least 1 movie a night.
Bad part is with the summer on its way I will be working days, so no more movies at work till September.:(

I run a Maintenance Storeroom at night so when the mechanics, electricians, etc aren't coming up to get parts there's pretty much nothing to do besides working on the computer or watching movies.

I try to but it's usually easier for me to either tape it and listen to it there or I just log into my Sirius account. The show gets replayed all day online. Taping it is better so I can pause it when someone comes up to the counter.
