Hey all! As you know Sideshow Collectibles is due to release the Child's Play prop replica Chucky doll within the next month.

Now for me, I saw Child's Play first when I was about 14 or so and here I am 15 years later and the film still leaves that "cute dolls are creepy as hell feeling" every time I see one!

I just wanted to start a little poll here to see who has the little killer on Pre-Order because they can't get enough of him or who has specifically not ordered him because he's left you scared since childhood! Lol!

Please read all the selections and pick one that applies!

The first Child's Play scared the heck out of me. I never liked dolls and this just reinforced it.

I'd be tempted to get it if it wasn't "battle damaged" version.

I'd never consider Chucky horror. More like fun schlock. Great, imaginative, fun ways to kill people from this weird little imp. Almost a genre' unto itself.
Same thing as Leprechaun. Fun not scary.

had mine on order since it was announced last year. If it looks as good as it does in the pics then i'll be very happy. It's a quality prop, for the serious collector. i remember watching a backstage pass video years ago at Kevin Yagher's studio, he had a childs play 3 doll in a glass case with the knife, looked amazing, and i've wanted one ever since.

1 to 3 are excellent horror movies, extremely creepy, just what horror flick should be.

I received my Palpatine bust nearly a month ago and I don't think it's shipped yet for the international customers so that's probably why you haven't gotten an e-mail for Chucky yet as there is a delay between US and foreign shipments, hopefully you will have him soon enough though :thumbs2:

I'm really curious to know how many of these dolls were made and I hope they will continue the line and give us the original doll,Tiffany and Glen and a Heart of Damballa replica.

I've wondered what the edition size would be since he was up for preorder. In any case though,if he looks as good as he does in the pictures, this will be the definitive battle version of Chucky.
I was always put off by the bad quality (not to mention likeness) of the ones you can find on ebay or your local Spencer Gifts and refused to buy them.

Just found this question answered by Sideshow from an 11/1/2007 "Ask Sideshow" thread under their "Ministry of Information!!!

Cut and paste is as follows:

Patrick R. asks - Can't wait for the life-size Chucky to come out - I'm getting one for sure, but is it gonna look like how it looks in the pictures on your site? I like how it looks just like the one in the movie - best Chucky out there! Are you gonna make a life-size Chucky from Bride Of Chucky too?

We'll have new images for you shortly, as we're due to receive the final pre-production samples soon. Based on the samples received so far, it will look just as good (if not better) than the pictures you've seen so far. Oh, and the knife WILL be included in the final product.

:D

Xenomorph79
07-10-2008, 09:16 PM
Just found this one from 6/2008!!!

Cut and paste is as follows:

Fan: Would Sideshow ever make a statue/doll/replica of Tiffany from Bride of Chucky / Seed of Chucky? I already have the 16-inch Tiffany, but could you make one like the 14-inch vinyl Chucky and damaged Chucky? And maybe also one of Glenn from Seed of Chucky?

Sideshow: That sounds like a very, very good idea. In fact, we think you’ll be pleased with one of our announcements coming up in the next year!

LightMyFire
07-10-2008, 09:57 PM
I didn't know the knife was going to be included,I wonder what material it's made out of,plastic perhaps? I know that a magnet was used to attach the knife to his hand in Seed of Chucky so maybe this will be the same way.
I'm curious to know how they will ship the knife to international customers though. From what I understand, some had trouble getting the 1st Hellboy Samaritan and that was made from resin.

I can't wait to find out what that announcement will be for next year!

Now we know it for sure. I've mailed SS and this is their answer:

Thank you for your e-mail to our Customer Service Department and for
your interest in our products.

Please be advised the Seed of Chucky - Chucky Prop Replica (Item #2921) is a limited edition item in that it will be available for a period of time rather than us producing a specific amount. Because we are not producing a set amount the figures and boxes will not be numbered and we do not know at this time how many will be produced.

In regards to the knife, yes we did decide to include a plastic one with the figure. The photos posted to the ordering page will be updated as soon as we get a chance however, please know that it maybe a few weeks before anything new is posted for the Chucky figure.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Best regards,

In my opinion,SS have outdone themselves on this one.I know that a battle version was released back in April in Japan by Dreamrush and even though i've never seen one of them in person, judging by pictures,Sideshow's is simply the better version, the likeness is spot on and I don't think you can get any better without owning the original screen used movie prop :thumbs2:

He comes with a knife and another thing that surprised me since I was worried about how I was going to display him,he does come with a base and a large doll stand so you'll have no worries about having him stand up without falling over.

Needless to say,I haven't gotten much work done today! He's awesome and when I got him unpacked and set up,I was pretty much like holy @*#% I have Chucky in my room. When I get up close to him,I expect him at anytime to yell "head's up" and swing his knife at my throat

The parts that are visible are not metal.
He does have glass eyes which i'm grateful for, there's just a world of difference between painted and glass and I hope SS will use glass eyes more in the future.

On the base,Chucky stands 30" :)

Yeah i agree, bit odd really and a little annoying, not like it's a massively complicated thing to achieve either. I'm guessing his trouser legs are too short to roll up?

Xenomorph79
07-20-2008, 12:17 PM
Hmmm... judging from the pictures so far, there's something about him that's bugging me but I can't figure it out yet. I know the production pieces rarely look dead onto the prototype and maybe that's it.

First thing I noticed is that the skin tone seems to be a bit on the lighter side when compared to the prototype. Also, the whole cuffs on the pants are bugging me a bit too. I don't know... maybe I'm just not seeing good pics yet and am jumping the gun a bit.

Gonna have to wait to get mine to be sure of my opinion...

phildexter
07-20-2008, 01:04 PM
Yeah i think he's pretty dead on to the prototype. You're right about the skin tone, there is a little more airbrush work on the face in the Sideshow images, however they do have a certain lighting setup, which can really set off certain features off the prop. I'm convinced with the right pose, hair and lighting it can look just as good :)

I'm an independent film maker and airbrush artist so i'm hoping to get some good shots of mine when he shows up!

Xenomorph79
07-20-2008, 03:42 PM
Yea... the Sideshow photo all the way to the right TOTALLY looks so much more kick ass then the other two. Even the center photo (sideshow also) looks a little off. It's gotta be a pose and lighting issue which makes em all look so different.

Good question about the shoes by the way!

I rolled up his pants and even though I have no plans on taking his shoes off,it looks like his ankles and shoes are 2 seperate pieces so i'm assuming he does have feet.

Still waiting on mine...

The whole cuffed pants revelation is a bit of a relief!

I still have a few questions though:

How does he hold the knife? Can he actually grip it or is it all about magnets?
Which joints are poseable? Such as both elbows or is the knife hand permanently bent at the elbow.
Can you turn the head at all... is it on a ball joint?
What about the knees... are they bendable?

LightMyFire
07-21-2008, 04:55 PM
There are no magnets for the knife, you just slide the knife in and his hand will hold it in place.

The knife hand is permanently bent at the elbow, you can adjust the pose of the elbow but it will stay bent.
You can turn the head and move his legs to sit him down.

"Thank you for your e-mail to our Customer Service Department and for
your interest in our products.

I can advise that I personally opened up a box to review the figure and
it was shipped with the pants not cuffed however, they can easily be
cuffed to look exactly like the picture. It's just a matter of how you
would like to display the figure.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

that's good you had a reply from sideshow regarding the pants. Think this one will likely be one of my favorite props to own.

Had a shipping notice email from sideshow last night for EU customers. They'll be processing payments on the 24th July. However, judging by the way they do things and delivery times, I can't see it arriving for another two weeks after the 24th. So I may cancel and hope Play get them sooner and of course minus the tax and duty. Hmmm...

I had to purchase Sideshow's Chucky. He is incredible. However the price we are all paying is the same as a car payment and an electric bill together. I know I can't afford him; However he is worth every penny. I know I will suffer later. And yes, regardless how much I love him I still feel guilty. Anyone else with these feelings?

Congratulations on getting him :D I couldn't be happier having him in my collection and I have zero regrets,he is light years ahead of the lesser quality Chucky dolls that I refused to buy and Sideshow have really done him justice in his battle version form IMO.

The inclusion of the knife and the base with the doll stand (which I didn't expect),was a big surprise as the stand solved my problem of how I was going to pose and display him so including that was a nice addition and greatly appreciated.

But as I stated above, the number is ONLY listed on the exterior shipping box as far as I could find... that's just odd.

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q294/SpcJky/0804080905.jpg

The actual product box inside the shipping box is merely a cheap brown cardboard box with an image on the front. Sooooo could have been better. Especially for a film collectible known for what it was packaged inside in the film. My opinion... it should have been packaged inside the original Good Guy box or at least a color more collectible box. And again... the number is NOT located on this box.

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q294/SpcJky/0804080937.jpg

Chucky's feet can be seen at the bottom of the Styrofoam insert.

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q294/SpcJky/0804080907.jpg

Ahhh... here he is! Packaging at this stage is good. Comes wrapped in plastic and with his trusty plastic knife at his side.

Some up close shots:

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q294/SpcJky/0804080927.jpg

Damaged eye... not exactly a paint app on this to rave about. Waaay to glossy when compared to the prototype pics and the paint within the cuts and groves is a bit sloppy. You really have to see this one in person to get the whole effect. Good lighting when displayed should hide the small imperfections on this.

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q294/SpcJky/0804080928.jpg

Undamaged eye... Looks good although I'm thinking that they are NOT glass. Look and feel more like clear plastic. They are also not as yellow and menacing as the prototype photos make them appear to be.

The eyebrows are also NOT longer hairs like seen on the prototype and in the films, they're more like a peach fuzz short hair. I was a bit disappointed in this.

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q294/SpcJky/0804080916a.jpg

Shoes look good. Hard to tell if there are actually feet in them though or if the leg is just connected to the shoe. If I put pressure on the shoes it does feel like there's a foot inside though. I just don't want to risk attempting to remove one and damaging it.

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q294/SpcJky/0804080915a.jpg

As far as joints go:

The gripping arm is permanently bent at the elbow with a shoulder ball joint and wrist cut joint.

Other arm has ball shoulder and two cut joints in the arm as well as a wrist cut joint.

Hips have cut joints to allow sitting position.

Knees are NOT jointed. (VERY DISAPPOINTING!)

Ankles have small ball joints to allow proper standing without the oversized base.

Neck is a ball joint as well with limited movement.

Well... that's my small review. There are a few things that I feel Sideshow could have paid a bit more attention to but then again there are always those small things that agitate the SUPER PICKY like me. Haha! I hope my review helped some of you out!!!

Nice review and awesome photo's :thumbs2: !

How much does the doll weight? The head does it only goes left or right? Or can it lean\ ?

It would be nice if the knees could bent. But if you look at child's play 2 you'll see that the legs has no joints.

Xenomorph79
08-04-2008, 11:43 AM
As far as weight is concerned, the Sideshow site has the "product weight" at 20 lbs and I'd say that's about right. It has some good weight to it making it a durable and better quality piece rather than hard hollow plastic.

The base of the neck is on a ball joint that's located just below the collar line which allows for side to side movement, back just a bit and limited forward lean.

I know what your talking about with the legs from the second film not having bendable knees but I still feel this should have been included to add to the pose ability of the doll. Remember... as Chucky becomes more human, he becomes more like a little person rather than a doll. His knees should have been jointed. IMO. :thumbs2:

After I get my Chucky all set up with crazy hair and some acessories I'll post more pics.

Please post some pics of yours when you get him too!

Child's play 1 : Great movie
Child's play 2 : Was ok not great but ok
Child's play 3 : was to soon and sucked

Bride of chucky : funny but was not realy a horror flick.
Seed of chucky: Was okay but I think that you must see the last two movies as a differnt serie then the clid play's.

Wow. Thanks for taking the time to post all those pics. I've preordered mine through Play.com, as I'm sure others on here know the date recently got put back another two weeks so it's great to see the photos from those who've got the little critter already while we wait!

I wish they'd hurry up and ship 'em, it's always handy to have one around. You never know when you're gonna get shot by a cop...:sly2:

Both US and EU are now backorder. Would there be a supply delay for EU dealers or even no supply?

I really really want this piece but i've ordered it with a EU dealer, but it still is in pre-order ( i can't cancel it) . What would you guys do? Wait or place a second order with Sideshow and if my EU dealer has it first cancel SS?

Yeah, I'll take loads of photos, if it ever gets here! I'm beginning to think some meddlesome kid may have intercepted the parcel a la CP3, lol.

@ fopflugel, I'm in Europe too and still waiting on mine which I have preordered with a retailer. I'm thinking we may still have a while to wait to be honest, as although play.com says the 15th of August, they've been putting it back and putting it back each time. I'm kinda hoping that it will be coming this week and won't get put back again, but I'm discouraged by the fact that Forbidden Planet has their expected arrival date as the 30th of September...I really want this too, it's frustrating but I'm personally just going to wait for play.com and hope it does eventually come as I could really do without huge customs charges right now.

My favourite part of Seed is when Chucky & Tiffany decapitate that guy at the movie studio, and they gaze at each other, both covered in blood as the romantic music starts up...and Glen/Glenda goes 'They're stark raving mad!'

Ey guys is this a limited prop replica? What's the edition run? I read a few pages back that the shipping boxes are individually numbered so I figured this is limited to a certain number.

also I saw on ebay that there are other life size chucky replicas or dolls by medicom..looks pretty cool..although they have a $1000 over price tag and limited to only 150pcs.

Cheers guys, this is by far the best reproduction prop i've received in about 3 years, so i'll be keeping him for a very long time. I've still got my other order with play.com.... is two too excessive? lol....

To answer a few of your questions.

I used just styling moose for the hair, I also trimmed some of the hair at the front. Took a while to get it just right.

I think the Made in Japan should be in black, but i'm not fussed about that to be honest.

Mine appears to be number 132

Thanks LightMyFire. It's just weird that the box of the figure is numbered by they didn't release an edition run. I'm asking coz I need the info for the name plate I'm making for it. I might end up just writing "Limited Edition" as the edition run. Hmmm maybe I can shoot sideshow an email about it.

I remembered that fopflugel asked Sideshow that question, this was the answer that he received about the edition run

"Thank you for your e-mail to our Customer Service Department and for
your interest in our products.
