View Full Version : Would this be bad? (recast)

I just got done watching a bunch of videos on Mold making. It got me excited and now I would like to try it. So, I was thinking of starting off small and I have a Spider-man hand from my Broken SSC Hulk vs SM that I am fixing/customizing.
My question is...Do you think it would be bad to cast it and make a few extras? I have one dio were his ring finger is broken and I wouldn't mind having it whole again. Plus, I'm sure a few people here might need a new hand with fingers, also.
My only concern is IF I do this, not sure how well I can match Sideshows paint.
What do you think?

To recast a problem hand?

I dont think its bad. just fix that hand.

I think this becomes a touchy subject when you start making a profit off someone's else's work.

I agree. I don't know if SSC offer a repair service (somehow I doubt it) but I can't see anything wrong with fixing your own dio or helping out a few friends by trying to fix theirs. It all depends on whether you want to charge people for doing it.

Of course, I would only charge what they cost me. Just enough to cover my material cost.

Actually if it doesn't cost much to make, I'll wind up just charging postage.

Now that I'm thinking about it, if a company doesn't offer a repair service, then surely there is nothing ethically wrong with an individual doing repairs by recasting a section of a piece. If you charged for your own expenses than surely it wouldn't be that bad?

It's not like you're completely plagiarising anothers work and passing it off as your own and for profit, you're just attempting to replicate a damaged portion of somebody elses piece.

Am I out of line for thinking this?

Well, It doesn't look like anybody else has an opinion on this so, I'm going to give it a try. After, I do some research, of course.

I don't see how repairing equals recasting. I'd call that restoration. This is huge business actually.

If there was a place where people could send their statues to be repaired or repainted, the place would likely be booming with business.

if you are only doing the hand that would not be an issue. but if you are thinking of casting the entire spidey then there would be a problem.

Just my thought, but I believe you can recst whatever you want as long as you're not making profit out of it and only for your personal interest/fun.

Let's say I make 3 casts out of SS Ironman and paint them into differnt color myself and never sell them, so what's the big deal? You can bring those recasts with you to the tomb when you die and nobody would even know about it.
and even SS finds out, what can they do?
Report you to the police and say "this guy recast a statue of ours only for personal fun and not making a single cent out of it, please prison this bloody bastard!"
I don't think so.

And upon all you're only doing some parts to repair, nobody would care, believe me.

Hey Darth Pain,

I also have the SS Spiderman vs. Hulk dio and the finger is broken. If you can make an extra cast, I would like one.
