Mottling 10 psi minimum, 15 max. :)

Base coating I use 15 to 20.

Hmmm most of the time mine is around 15-20.

When i bust out the cheap $20 badger air brush for speckle/granite paint work. i have it set around 35-40 so get a lot of pressure. but then i spray from like 12 inches away.

When i use my badger 360 for heavy coats around 30 psi.

OK...let me explain, the basic mechanics of airpressure and your airbrush.

The rule of thumb is the higher the airpressure, the better your paint is atomized. The lower the airpressure, the better your line control is.

Now, I typically spray basecoats (as well as basic highlights and shadows) at about 15-20 psi as I want my paint to atomize as finely as possible to get the smoothest finish that I can.

Then for fine detail work and mottling, I hover between 10-12 psi for greater line control.
